SM Home has this assistant vice president for Marketing and I call him Turbo Tom (Castañeda). He’s the whirlwind behind the many major activities of SM Home since he joined more than a year ago. I just finished writing about the April and May room vignettes, but while we were not looking Tom had changed the five room vignettes in the bridgeway at the 5th floor of SM Makati. SM Home’s June Vignettes They are now looking like these: Tom opted for accent walls with geometrics or lines, except for the living room wall which was a plain dark blue. Here are the colors that Tom used for the walls and frames. Checking Out the Room Vignettes While I was there, I found many customers stopping by. They felt the smoothness of table surfaces, turned over a chair to see if it looked durable from underneath, ran their hands on…

I’ve said it before and I say it again. Wall paint really changes the look and feel of a space. And all for such little effort and for less money, relatively speaking. And the best thing of all is there’s hardly any down time compared to structural changes like knocking down a wall to make the space look bigger. You can use light neutrals to open a space, or a dark color to provide depth. Wall paint can also be used to liven up a space or to give it a relaxed vibe. If you don’t like your first choice, then change it. You don’t have to overthink it unless you’re the overthinking type. Are you the type to have a flavor-of-the-month kind of style? Paint. Or do you want to try different personalities like you would with fashion? Paint. Of course, you’d have to make sure that your furniture…

Last April 27 to 29 during the SM Home Turnover Fair in SM Aura, assistant vice president Tom Castañeda together with three other designers made room vignettes using colors mixed by Boysen exclusively for SM Home. But Tom and his team were restrained by choosing the light neutrals and greens to paint the walls. leaving out the warm orange Summer Solstice and intense yellow Flaxen. This makes a lot of sense when you are choosing colors for a small condo. You wouldn’t want to overpower a small space, especially if it is a studio, with so many colors. It’s better to have a home that soothes you with cool colors rather than fire you up. Imagine coming home to that after a long, hard day at work? Nah, right! The Cool Woodlands for a Restful Bedroom For the bedroom vignette, Tom chose the rich green color of Woodlands combined with…

SM Home just recently concluded the first-ever SM Home Turnover Fair, which offered assistance to new homeowners in the interior design of their new homes. The event was also helpful to homeowners who wanted to renovate their homes, or those who were just shopping around for ideas. The SM Home Turnover Fair, which ran from April 27 to 29 at SMX Aura, was a brilliant idea from assistant vice president Tom Castañeda. Bursting with ideas, tips and advice from architects and interior designers, the place became a hive of activity soon after its opening. Customers could even do their shopping right there since many suppliers of furniture, home accessories and small appliances, were in stalls located around the perimeter of the exhibition area. Interior designers were on hand to do one-on-one consultations with customers in a breakout area at the back. The area also doubled up as a place where customers…

The Be You palette of Color Trend 2018 is a mix of cool colors, pastels and light, earthy neutrals. These are colors that can reflect the comfort and safety that a haven offers. It’s a wonderful place to be where you can relax, be comfortable in your own skin and just be yourself. No need for masks or a stiff upper lip. Facial muscles are not required to express anything but what you feel. See the Be You Palette in SM Home’s Bedroom and Kitchen Vignettes Be You is a color palette that provides the healing hues for rest and refuge, a space where you can withdraw for a while from the frenetic pace of your day, and just take deep breaths to recover, to heal, and to top up your energy to be able to handle life’s vicissitudes. See how SM Home’s AVP for Marketing Tom Castaneda and professional…

The Boysen and SM Home collaboration sprouted wings and flew down to the queen city of the south Cebu City. SM Home’s assistant vice president for Marketing Tom Castañeda organized a design event called The Essentials of Condo Living on February 24 and 25 at the SM City Cebu Northwing Atrium. Boysen in SM Home Cebu City The Cebuanos were treated to room vignettes to show how paint colors and home furnishings and accessories could be combined to make contemporary, cool living spaces. The Technology palette of Boysen Color Trend 2017 was the designers’ favorite, with the pink Techy Romantic being the showstopper. How to Infuse Personality Into Your Home with Paint and Color The crowd was very much into the talks given by the interior designers and stylists of the vignettes. Boysen was there to talk about how to use paint to make your homes become places you would be so…

Are you looking for a color palette that invites you to embrace nature and be in the moment? The Be Here palette of Color Trend 2018 is my favorite. I usually go for subdued colors. However, for this year’s Color Trend, I find the dusky mauves Root Crop and Gypsy Train, the deep green of Forest Ranger, the burnt yellow of Yellowstone Park, and the neutrals Marble Chalk and inky Night Watch, so attractive. What draws me to this palette is its organic feel. With these colors you are inviting nature in, in a subtle way, and are giving your space a grounded vibe. Embrace Nature in Your Living Room Professional stylist Love Ocampo designed the living room in SM Home’s March room sets. She used a grey sofa to contrast with the deep green wall. You could see the same grey in the swirls and veins of a white…

You’d think that the palette Be Seen, mainly consisting of blues and greys, would be subdued and restrained. However, the addition of a fiery red and cream makes it hum with a kind of sassy energy. The color combination makes it a space that vibrates at a higher frequency. It’s a space that invites you to show the world your light. Paint Your Dining Room with Be Seen Tom Castañeda, assistant vice president of SM Home, designed a nautical-themed dining room vignette. Nautical was not the style he wanted for this room, not until he saw the striped wall. He started out with blue and cream, and ended up adding red stripes in the whole mix. See for yourself in this video what Tom made of the space. The colors in this dining room raise energy levels. This is a good ambience for a dining room since it is a…

The palette Be Bold of Color Trend 2018 has bright colors, perfect for a room like a home office to give that space a high energy vibe. Our collaboration partner in SM Home, Tom Castaneda, designed an incredibly colorful and powerful space using the Be Bold palette. He designed it with a young power couple in mind, but it ended up being his space. The three clocks on the wall have a special meaning for Tom. He’s an American and lived in New York, has family in Los Angeles, and now resides in Manila. So those are the three time zones that matter to him. Other Collaborations between Boysen and SM We started collaborating with Tom last year and we’ve made so many room sets using Color Trend 2017 and 2016. Here are just three of those spaces : Light and Bright Interiors to Welcome the New Year SM Home’s…

On March 1, we had a media launch of the Boysen Color Trend 2018 in the second edition of the SM Home Design Series “In Living Color”. We presented 24 new colors divided into four palettes, Be Bold + Be Seen + Be Here + Be You = BE BOYSEN. I can write about it here. I already did in the post last February 26, Boysen Introduces 4 Palettes for Color Trend 2018. Although I do urge you to read it and look at the color swatches, there is really nothing like seeing the colors come alive. That’s what you’ll experience if you go and visit SM Home Makati. In Living Color at the SM Makati Concourse SM Home AVP for Marketing Tom Castañeda got first dibs on using the colors and they look gorgeous! That’s bias right there, but if you see the room sets you’re going to fall…
