There were two incidents that inspired Melissa Lee, VP for Sales and Marketing of Hi Precision Diagnostics, to build an auxiliary clinic called MomMe Care dedicated for moms and kids.

The first incident happened during a trip to Japan when her son got sick. They had to go to a building which was only for pediatrics. The second source of inspiration was her own experience during her pregnancy when she had to undergo a series of blood tests. While in the waiting room, there was a man who was really sick and coughing non-stop. She noticed her own discomfort.

Two MomMe Care Branches

Mel shared, “For the first experience, I thought it was really convenient to have a whole building just for pedia. As regards the second, I felt that pregnant women deserve a place for themselves since they need special care due to a lower immune system.” These two moments were the seeds for MomMe Care. “But we have something smaller, a wing of a Hi-Precision branch, and not an entire building,” Melissa added.

There are now two branches which opened early this year. One is located at Del Monte in Quezon City, the other at the Alabang-Zapote Road in Las Piñas. Both clinics have obstetricians/gynecologists and pediatricians.

MomMe Care: A Clinic Exclusively for Moms and Kids

Health Care Services Offered

These are the following services offered in the clinics:

  • 3D-4D ultrasound
  • blood tests for kids and moms
  • non-invasive prenatal testing that can determine the health of the baby and gender as early as 9 weeks of gestation

There is also a feeding room available, as well as a nebulizing room and a small area where kids can color books or watch TV while waiting.

A Satisfied Mom-to-Be

Karen H. Pregoner, a soon-to-be first time mom judging from the size of her tummy, had this to say,

…It’s very convenient and mas mabilis ang transaction. Tapos iyong ambience ng place sobrang nakaka-relax kahit pa ba mag wait ka ng matagal. Unlike…doon sa regular lane nila…but here sobrang comfortable ang feeling, masaya, at tsaka relax lang…”

The MomMe Care Ambience

The colors of the interiors are an interesting mix of pastels. The light and fresh colors create a warm, relaxing and friendly ambience.

The waiting room has a lot of comfortable seating areas. The upholstery was done in different colors to complement the hues of the walls. Cut-outs of clouds and trees are a fun way to tease the imagination. You feel that you could be in a friendly garden with nature all around you. The excellent lighting add to the cheerful vibe by making you feel that you were indeed under the sun’s glow.

There was another waiting area inside for those who would have to be examined, or needed some private time with her doctor. There was a private breastfeeding room for mothers who were there with their infants. The nebulizer room had several nooks where you had a table (ledge) and chair for each patient. A great deal of thought was also given to creating the signages done in a friendly-looking font.

Ella Obogne, a customer care specialist, said, “MomMe Care from HP (Hi Precision) caters (to) pregnant and pedia (patients). So ang ambience dito is more comfortable than sa clinic na medyo maraming patient(s)…”

The Special Paint Used in MomMe Care

A special place like this calls for special paint. Melissa said,

We used Virtuoso paint because of its antibacterial feature. At the same time it has Teflon so that makes it easier for us to keep the walls clean. We created a space that will be relaxing for moms but at the same time fun for the kids.

Hi Precision gets a lot of kids and pregnant moms in the branches in Del Monte and Las Pinas, therefore Melissa started MomMe Care here in these two centers. If the current services find resonance, she hopes to expand this service to all Hi Precision Diagnostics branches nationwide.

It’s such a treat to go to high-end shops like Kuysen and wander around to see the luxury furniture brands they carry, like Zanotta, to name one. The magnificence of the designs, the materials used, and the melding of both to create furniture which is both functional and beautiful, make you want to bring them home. If you can afford it, good for you. If you can’t, don’t sweat it, just breathe in that luxury and dream on.

In the video, you will see tables, chairs, armchairs and sofas designed by Carlo Mollino, Federica Capitani, Ora Ito, Damian Williamson, and Frank Rettenbacher.

Perfect Walls for Luxury Furniture

If you do get to bring home these high-end furniture, you would need your home to be ready to receive these masterpieces. For your walls, there is Virtuoso, Boysen’s luxury line that has a silky, matte finish which is the perfect backdrop because it allows the light to shine on your furniture. For the Zanotta furniture that you see in the video, these were the paint colors chosen for the walls.

Luxury Furniture Brand Zanotta

“Aurelio Zanotta used to say: «we need to get to the heart of the object, to extrapolate it and to make it clean and logical: in doing so, its true characteristics are emphasized and if the model is right, it consolidates over time»”. Duilio Gregorini

“With pieces displayed in over 40 museums around the world, no other furniture brand is as iconic as Zanotta. Among the leaders in industrial Italian design, it is as renowned for the range of its manufacturing technologies as it is for the precision of its handmade workmanship. Because timeless designs have found their place in the annals of style, owning a Zanotta is as good as owning a work of art, a piece of history.

“It’s global acclaim is recorded by the numerous awards it has received. Having collaborated with over 120 designers all over the world, Zanotta’s furniture with its materials is a perfect symmetry of wood, plastic, leather, steel and glass. One can only consider the uniqueness of a work by Zanotta the way one considers the uniqueness of any work of art by the masters.” (Source: Kuysen)

Kuysen, an exclusive importer and distributor of over 70 industrial and architectural brands, got Boysen to supply the paints to create the perfect space for the Duravit LUV Bathroom Series.

“When I was drawing up my design for Duravit, the image in my mind’s eye from the very start was a bowl filled with water on a simple table,” said the Danish designer Cecilie Manz.

From a “bowl filled with water on a simple table” to this!

This blog is full of Scandi-style interiors, the darling of today’s interior designers and stylists, and the Luv Bathroom Series is another example of that clean, minimal look.

“Luv’s unusual design combines Nordic purism and timeless elegance. Gentle forms follow a sharp geometry. The selection of materials and colors is testament to Cecilie Manz’s refined sense for nuanced form. Her color palate of matt lacquers and glazes in soft shades was developed exclusively for Duravit and emphasizes the fresh character of Luv.”

One of many life’s joys is bathing. Whether it’s getting ready to face a new day, or washing off the dust and grime of the day before going to bed, wouldn’t it be such a pleasure to have this kind of bathroom to do your cleansing rituals? I mean, what’s not to love about this Duravit LUV Bathroom Series? See those gorgeous lines and curves, not to mention those elegant and understated colors.

Ask any architect, interior designer, or contractor and they will readily tell you that one of the most expensive part of home building is the construction—and finishing—of the bathroom.  Yes, the much used, and abused, banyo.

You may be a young couple excited about starting a family, and looking forward to seeing your first dream home, or perhaps a middle-aged couple with grown-up kids, envisioning the outcome of your bathroom remodeling.

Regardless of circumstance, one common factor when going through a construction is budget limitation. When it comes to budget allocation, it is not uncommon to hear people say that they’d be willing to swap the grandness of an opulent living or dining room for a clean and well-appointed bathroom. After all, the bathroom is every man’s own quintessential private headquarters, the epitome of his oneness with himself, the ultimate…well, COMFORT room.

There are all sorts of ways that a would-be homeowner can ensure that he gets the most out of his hard-earned money in terms of cutting down the cost of bathroom construction. One way is to immediately determine whether you’ll go for a tub, or a shower enclosure. My own experience taught me not to be too excited about replicating what I’ve seen in other people’s homes, and instead focus on what I really do want for myself and what works for me and my family. I was all too thrilled then to have a bathtub installed in the master bathroom, only to find myself having to pay a worker years later to have it removed. I realized belatedly that I didn’t like to have to hop over the ledge of the tub day in and day out. I wanted to keep things simple, and I also welcomed the extra space that came with its removal.

Another area for cost savings would be the bathroom fixtures. Matte-finish fixtures are oftentimes more expensive than the glossy ones. When I had our bathrooms remodeled, I preferred the matte ones over the glossies, as the former exuded a more modern feel. But the matte ones were playing hard to get, it was quite costly. So the compromise was—I still purchased the matte fixtures but settled for the slim-line…less bulky, less expensive. Brilliant, huh? They were more affordable, and even looked very stylish and contemporary.

One budget roadblock that we can all consider a major one is the expense of bathroom tiling. While there is a large assortment of tiles available in the market now, the really good ones can cost you an arm and a leg, not to mention the labor cost that comes with it, plus throw in the mess and dust you have to deal with from all that tile grinding. It can take quite a while too, to get the job done.

Tile installation too costly for you? Here’s a tip. Keep the tiling to a minimum, say just the flooring. Get that can of paint and start painting your walls. Probably the most important aspect of painting a wall is what comes before it, and that is wall or surface preparation. If the bathroom is already being constructed, and you got a worker who does great masonry work, then your painting job will be a breeze. You can even choose to go DIY with painting your walls, to further save on labor cost. You may even be surprised to later see that the painted wall treatment looks more jazzy than a conventional-tiled bathroom. Lower cost, yet high-end look. All the better!

Using the right kind of paint is also key. Among Boysen’s numerous lines of quality paints, I would recommend using Virtuoso and Healthy Home for the bathroom. What’s the advantage of one over the other? Depending on your requirements, you are likely to find one that suits your needs.

Both Virtuoso Silk Touch and Healthy Home Odor-less Antibacterial paints are equipped with Antibacterial Protection Technology. This assures you that your bathrooms, porous walls notwithstanding, will allow you and your family to enjoy cleaner surroundings.

Aside from its antibacterial properties, Virtuoso Silk Touch is your go-to paint if you want the low-sheen finish and easy-clean feature. Your walls will be very low-maintenance, because it has Dupont’s Teflon component, which gives the paint a natural resistance against common household stains. A bonus feature is that it’s odor-less, so it’s friendly to use for those who want to go DIY.

For the obsessive-compulsive who want to push for lower costs, Healthy Home is a great fit. Since it’s water-based, it’s also odor-less and its inherent antibacterial protection gives extra defense against microbes, mildew and fungus. So you are assured of an easy-to-clean, hygienic bathroom.

Go ahead, go DIY! Quality painted walls is the new sophisticated. Achieve the elegance you want, at a fraction of the cost. Win-win na ang scenario, bongga pa ang banyo.

Through the years, there has been a significant shift in designing powder rooms, both in commercial and residential spaces. Gone are the days of just laying out a standard cubicle with a decent water closet, sink and toilet paper holder to match. Nowadays, if you visit a friend’s house or a chic new bistro, you might find an elaborate buffet of toiletries, an intriguing wall paint selection, or a refreshing floral decor.

Your home or space is an extension of who you are or the establishment you’re representing and the powder room is most probably one of the most used areas by visiting guests.

Here are a few residential powder rooms worthy of another visit.

U Residence (2.875 sqm)

Designed with a Modern-Industrial aesthetic in mind, this powder room explores the subtleties of using cement- finished walls (Konstrukt Skimkote) to give way to the bold bathroom fixtures and graphic accent tile design. Mood lighting was placed to soften the rough finish of the room.

T Residence (3.74 sqm)

This powder room breathes luxury and finesse. Upon entering this space, you are greeted with a tall elegant floral arrangement complimenting the wall (Virtuoso) and floor finishes.

Cove lighting was used to add luxuriousness to the space.

R Residence (3.52 sqm)

This monochromatic masterpiece explores understated class. Using finishes of the same color, the designer opted to play with textures and dimensions, creating a clever take on accent tile layouts.

Imagine this scenario: You enter a cozy, swanky place and you feel this warm, comfortable feeling envelope you, and you whisper to yourself, “What a nice ambience.” Then you notice that the whole room is swathed in low, yellow light, and the walls are painted white.  Easy enough to replicate. You go home, arm yourself with a brand new pristine brush and cans of white paint, and merrily shift to DIY mode to paint the whites on, only to be dismayed in the end because your white feels flat and you did not quite achieve the cozy feel you were hoping for. What gives?

To the untrained eye, white is white. But the fact is, not all whites are created equal. If you ask me, white can be a very tricky color. We all know about the advantages of using white – for small spaces, white makes space bigger, white is generally deemed as a ‘safe’ color, and so on.  But white can actually wave its own brand of magic, if correctly used.

With the prevailing lifestyle shift of most Filipinos now, what with the seeming preference for cosmo and convenient condo living, the use of monochromatic color, especially white, has become very effective to use in small and limited spaces. But here’s the catch: those walls of white that so enchanted you? They are not painted just white.  Those ‘whites’ are actually a combination of white and different hues done in different shades to subtly create depths, and to be able to distinguish between areas, and yet allow for creating one harmonious space, therefore giving you that ‘cozy, warm ambiance’. Now if you are a brave soul, and still insist on channeling your DIY persona, go ahead and do so, but just come down a while from your mighty ladder, and elicit the help of the friendly people at your paint shop or depot’s Mix & Match station. They will be able to help you come up with your ‘right white’.

This unit was painted using Virtuoso Silk Touch for the walls because of its Teflon properties and Microban antibacterial protection. The unit owner opted to use Virtuoso because it will allow her to enjoy the whites longer as Virtuoso is an easy-clean, matte- finish paint. Using Virtuoso was also strategic, since the unit is also leased out, hence, Virtuoso’s easy clean feature makes the place less vulnerable for tenants who may not be as careful with the usage of the unit.

It has, in fact, been a very smart move for the owner to use various light shades of Virtuoso as the quality of paint has proven its longevity even with the constant comings and goings of different tenants, thus helping the unit owner in her own business of condo rentals. For this unit, white creates airiness, while exuding sophistication. Additionally, the source of light also determines whether your white will come out intensified or subdued.

Suffice it to say, white is a very flexible color. Floor may carry a very light tinge of gray, walls are “white”, with ceilings that are even “whiter”, all these subtle differences create that fluidity – making the floor, wall, and ceiling undefined space —thus allowing for the illusion of bigger space and yet providing a cohesive look.

So the next time you see a sea of white walls and ceilings and floors, and you start feeling relaxed, warm, and all fuzzy, look again, and you’ll know better…perhaps it’s not quite white.
