One of the four palettes of Boysen Color Trend 2020 is KINSHIP. It embodies

HUMAN CONNECTION. ROOTS. INCLUSIVITY.

The Artwork for KINSHIP

The inspiration for this artwork comes from several sources. The artist said,

I remembered that scene from ‘Stepmom’ where Susan Sarandon’s character made a quilt for her daughter. In that quilt, she made sure to add small details of her daughter’s childhood like a patch of the girl’s dress or an image of the infant printed on fabric and included in the quilt.

…[also] our fellow Lumad people have told stories about our roots through weaving and I thought it would be fitting to show the idea of KINSHIP by making an artwork of a quilt or a blanket or a carpet…”

There is a mix of weaves (Yakan and Maguindanaon) and tattoo designs (from Wang-od of Kalinga and from the Visayas) which are hand-drawn. Even if the artwork was done digitally, the artist wanted to draw it for an authentic and organic look.

The tattoos have several meanings like Creation, Fertility, Journey, Harmony, Unity, Strength, Protection, as well as tattoos meant for warriors.

You will see 5 squares or patches which for the artist concretizes the meaning of KINSHIP:

    • Mother and child
    • Respect, as shown in the “mano po
    • Two men interacting in friendship
    • Shaking of tattoed hands to denote commitment
    • A woman showing the detailed sleeve of her terno

The Colors of the KINSHIP Palette

KINSHIP Palette of Boysen Color Trend 2020
Disclaimer: Swatches may not match the actual paint colors.

Befitting the symbolism of community, this palette is a mix of warm and cool colors. The browns In the Flesh, Warm Embrace and Unapologetic, represent skin colors. The intense yellow of Wildflowers and the bright purple New Voice balance the dark neutrals, including the dark grey Birthmark.

The colors can give interior spaces a very warm, homey feel. Depending on what will be used as a primary color, your home can be light and cheerful or warm and earthy. Whatever you choose, you will get a natural feel to your space.

Visit the KINSHIP page in our Boysen Color Trend website to check out the different painting ideas which you could steal for the rooms in your house. The interior spaces showcased for this palette are gorgeous and worthy of replication. Just add your own unique stamp and you’ve got a home that would have your DNA. Also, our country is so rich in culture and creativity. It would be fairly easy to buy home accessories that would fit the KINSHIP palette.
