The Boysen Color Trend 2020 will have its premiere next week at the Interior & Design Manila (IDM) from March 12 to 14 at the SMX Convention Center. For the Boysen booth, we will be using the interactive and open Boysen Color Stories, which you may have seen last year. Visitors will have the chance to experience the four palettes of this year’s Color Trend – ORIGINS, NOSTALGIA, KINSHIP, and META.

What do we mean by “experience the four palettes”? It means you will see the actual paint and get to color four original artworks that have been printed on huge canvases, which are hung at different areas in the booth. Each artwork uses one color palette, which has six paint colors.

This will give you the chance to test the colors and see what you like. If you are thinking about (re)painting your home, now is a good time to test which colors of the latest 24 Boysen colors you’d like to bring into your dwelling.

The Artwork for ORIGINS

The concept for this artwork is “honoring your roots.” The artist’s inspiration comes from a childhood memory of growing up in a green environment and believing that plants actually have feelings.

In the artist’s words:

I remember growing up in the province, waking up to my grandmother taking care of her own garden. I think those moments inspired me to appreciate the verdant lushness of nature, and to see unique color combinations and shapes. I’m not really a fan of reptiles but I believe they contribute to a balanced ecosystem. I hope my artwork gives viewers a chance to see what I visualize—a place that has wonders within.

The Colors of the ORIGINS Palette

ORGANIC. ROOTED. COMMUNAL.

These are just some of the words that describe the feel of the Origins palette. It emits a very comforting and grounded ambience with the colors of the earth, the foliage of our tropical islands, the pink tendrils of the sky at sunrise and sunset.

Except for Humble Bee and Pink Skies, the ORIGINS palette has four cool and dark colors—Purple Paradise, Lucid Green, Barefoot and Back to Zero.

These dark colors would work very well to create an intimate space in your home. It’s like being in an oasis that keeps you cool during hot and humid days. To keep the dark colors from overpowering your living space, you can always opt to use light-colored floors and ceilings. You can also add a touch of whimsy with Humble Bee and Pink Skies.

Or you may opt to have any of the light colors as your major color and use the dark ones as accents. That can also work. It all depends on using the colors well. It may be good to brush up on the 60-30-10 rule of interior designers when painting your home.

Also, do read up on the 7 Elements of Interior Design and the function of color in a space.

Color is the element that can set the mood, either liven it up or tone it down. Color creates the ambience in a room. It is also the element that unites all other elements in the room, or highlights a particular texture, pattern, line or form. Do you like to have a space that gives you a feeling of balance with just a glance? Colors. Do you want to make a room seem brighter or darker? Colors. Do you want to make a space larger or smaller? Colors. How about giving a space the feeling that the vertical dimensions are higher or lower, or that the horizontal dimensions are wider? Yes, colors again.

Environmental Awareness

Environmental awareness is a key trend that birthed the ORIGINS palette. It looks at home as something more than just man-made structures, but more the planet we live in, Mother Earth.

The Boysen Color Trends of the past years also had this concern for the natural and organic ever since we started coming out with color trends in 2015. However, for Vision 2020, this perspective has become crucial. This is the reason for ORIGINS, a push for a sustainable kind of living, of a mindset that respects our natural resources and our habitat. The concepts of zero waste or Cradle to Cradle processes are no longer new, but now they have become more urgent.

The artwork for ORIGINS is a visceral reminder that if we don’t take care of our home, our planet, we may see these lush environments only in artworks.

The Palettes in Boysen Color Stories

In the coming days, we will present the three other color palettes of Boysen Color Trend 2020 and how these palettes are used in three other beautiful artworks.

Do visit us at IDM from March 12 to 14 at the SMX Convention Center. The next opportunity to see the new colors of Boysen will be in Worldbex from March 18 to 22 at the World Trade Center.

See you there.

UPDATE on March 10, 2020

Both IDM and Worldbex organizers issued statements that the exhibitions will be postponed to a later unspecified date because of the declaration of a state of public health emergency (due to COVID-19) throughout the country by the President of the Philippines. We will keep you informed.
