For many years, I’ve treated our house like an inn, a temporary resting place. I enjoy going out with family and friends to kill time; I only come home to sleep and take a bath.  With the stay-at-home order, I’ve come face to face with our plain white walls. First of all, I noticed that they need cleaning. Secondly, this white paint makes my room look like a hospital. Well, this has to change! If you’re thinking the same thing or if you’re just plain bored with your neutral-colored walls, you can try color blocking!

Add charm and character to your home by color blocking a wall with Boysen paint. Here, we’ll give you wall design ideas and color blocking know-hows. You may not discover a groundbreaking idea like Newton’s theory of gravity or write a classic tragedy like Shakespeare’s King Lear in quarantine, at least you have a colorful home while in lockdown.

Glow all out with your home office with these bold and rich colors. When designating a workspace, your goal is to recreate the feeling of distinction between home and office. The former is a space to relax while the latter is a place to create. You can do this by color blocking your home office walls. The bold colors act as a visual divider that inspires you to get into the work groove. As you step away from this visually-stimulating space, it’s a cue to finally unplug your laptop, grab a bite, or take a nap.

“Get busy living or get busy dying.” That quote from The Shawshank Redemption has always stuck with me. It’s a good film to watch when you feel helpless and hopeless.

This active room is where you do a lot of living—watching your favorite TV series, reading a good book, and having the best conversation with family and friends. Inject sunny disposition with these lively colors in this space to set a positive tone in your home. I know you won’t be expecting your vibrant visitors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make your home more beautiful.

How to Color Block a Wall with Boysen Paint

Breathe life into the color blocking ideas you’ve seen. Create this easy DIY painting technique onto your wall with Boysen paint, a roller and a brush, sandpaper, and a roll of masking tape. Throw in some clean rags and old newspapers or tarpaulins for easy cleanup.

Prepare the area where you’ll paint. Protect the floor and furniture from paint splatters and sanding dust; cover them with newspapers or tarpaulins. Better yet, move your furniture or appliances to another room.

Even in simple DIY projects, surface preparation is important. Clean the wall before anything else. Remove dust and dirt using a duster and a clean damp rag. If the paint is still in good condition, which means it’s not peeling or cracking, then you just lightly sand the surface so the topcoat will adhere to it. Wipe off sanding dust with a damp rag and let it dry. You can skip the primer because the surface is not bare. It’s now ready for the topcoat.

Reminder: Determine the kind of paint that was used on the surface so you can buy a compatible paint type.

If the concrete wall has painting problems like peeling paint, chalky surface, or mildew-infested wall, you have to deal with them first. Follow this link to get expert-approved tips on treating them.

Take a step back after you’ve finished prepping the surface. You have to see the pattern in your mind first. Decide what pattern you like to do on your wall before you map it out with a roll of masking tape. Paint the “block” with the color of your choice.  Use a paintbrush to coat the corners and edges first, then follow the M pattern as you fill in the entire block using a roller. Let it dry before you peel off the tape.
