As the song goes, “Pumapatak na naman ang ulan sa bubong ng bahay.” The rainy season is here once again. It can get a little gloomy at times with the gray clouds above. So, if the sun isn’t coming out to play, create your own sunshine at home! A splash of yellow paint can instantly brighten a room, add a contrast piece or accent color to the space, and lift your spirits when the blues are about.

Hello, Yellow: 7 Ideas for Pops of Sunshine in Your Home | MyBoysen

Below are a few ideas on how to incorporate a little (or a lot) of yellow at home. Some of these you can turn into a rainy day project or bookmark for future reference next time you’re shopping.

On Small Furniture Like Stools and Side Tables

Rainy days are the perfect weather for unwinding with a hot beverage. Place your cup down on a colorful stool or side table. The yellow side table above adds variety to the green furniture. And, because the green used has warm undertones, yellow makes a great pair.

As a Backdrop for Home Décor

Greenery is always a welcome guest in the home. Make your flowers stand out more with a small backdrop. Take inspiration from the photo above but feel free to modify as you please. Place anything you want to spotlight! Succulents and tiny knickknacks, for example, will also find a cozy spot in front of this yellow backdrop.

An Easy Wall Piece to Hang

Did you know a single color can be art? Renowned artist Yves Klein is famous for his use of blue. In fact, among other notable work, he is known for his blue monochrome pieces – essentially a solid blue color in one hue on canvas. Why not take a page from his artbook and frame your own yellow piece too? Hung inside a more minimalist home, it’s bound to be eye-catching.

On Throw Blankets and Throw Pillows

Pair your yellow artwork with yellow throw pillows and even a yellow throw blanket on the sofa. A quick search on shopping sites will bring you hundreds of results and department stores will carry several options too. Easy, right?

On Cabinet and Drawer Doors

Breathe new life into a plain drawer or cabinet with just a little bit of yellow. You can, of course, choose other colors but yellow is great for adding warmth to the room. If the space is dull, a burst of this sunny color can instantly bring a welcoming and brightening feel. A Wall Strip of Yellow

Here’s a bold move for the more adventurous: paint a small section of your wall yellow. A strip of yellow can definitely bring energetic fun to a playroom.

Another way to utilize this trick is to use it as an area separator—it’s good for homes with an open layout like small condos. If your work desk is in the living room, for example, you can paint the wall of your area yellow to set boundaries from your work and living spaces. It works well to separate dining areas too.

Go Big!

What’s an even bolder move? Paint the room yellow! It’s not for everybody but, when done well, it can look stunning. Yellow can make a small room look larger and pairs great with wooden furniture. Your indoor plants are going to pop with this backdrop too! If you’re painting on concrete walls, we recommend the Virtuoso Silk Touch paint as it dries to a luxurious silk touch finish. Plus, with its Teflon surface protector technology, it’s easy to wipe clean.
