Is the month of love over yet? I’ve spent a lot this February talking about romantic love in your homes, from product pairs to Valentine’s Day color inspirations. Though as this month props up romantic relationships, I’d like to take a look at other relationships that also matter—platonic friendships. Hosting friends in our respective homes is a way to sustain non-romantic relationships, something important for my generation.

I’m sure you also want a home ready for get-togethers. In truth, real friends don’t care about what your home looks like. Still, let it be an expression of your platonic affection to let them enter a home like it’s theirs.

Before Hosting Friends

One of the important lessons I’ve learned from my childhood is to show the best of your home to your guests. My family has hosted different get-togethers at our home that I know what to check before the guests arrive.

  • Is the front yard clean and well-kept?
  • Is the floor swept and mopped?
  • Have the bedsheets and throw pillow cases been replaced with new ones?
  • Are the utensils enough for the number of expected guests?
  • Are there still dirty dishes in need of cleaning?
  • Are there available tissue and clean hand towels?

When I come over to a friend’s house, it’s not my business how they present it. However, if my friends are coming over to my house, I want them to feel clean, comfortable, and cared for.

Our blog has a number of home cleaning guides you should check out because I know get-togethers aren’t limited to the sala or dining hall. A cleaning routine should be done regularly anyway, so your home is ready for spontaneous get-togethers.

Creating a Friend-Ready Home

One of the most effective hacks I’ve seen to make your home conducive to get-togethers is making use of modular furniture—furniture that easily transforms depending on your needs. Space can sometimes be an issue when holding hang out sessions, so multi-functional furniture can be the key to allowing your home to welcome companions.

It’s furniture like these that can help close the distance between friends. Most get-togethers aren’t just limited to conversations, watch parties or game nights. Young professionals are always busy, and co-working and body doubling sessions have been a way to spend time guilt-free.
