Afrohemian Decor is one of the interior styles mentioned in Pinterest Predicts 2026. It occurred to me then that the Boysen palette that fitted this style is KINSHIP of Boysen Color Trend 2020/2021.

The KINSHIP palette is a mix of warm and cool colors. Browns energized by the vibrant color of yellow and purple, give a vibe of grounding and belonging. It’s a good fit for the eclectic and vintage style of Afrohemian Decor.
A Pinoy Aesthetic
Afrohemian is a portmanteau of African and bohemian. Localized, it can be called Filihemian, Pinoyhemian, or whatever. A few years back we called this style a Filipino hipstoric home, which was inspired by the Pinterest Trends (now called Pinterest Predicts) of 2023.
Here are some images that will give you ideas on how you can use the colors in your home interiors.
Afrohemian Decor focuses mainly on the styling of interiors, like the use of organic artisanal weaves in the furniture and accessories.
This is something cosmetic. It would be more interesting to expand it to the architecture of the home.
If you are thinking of building or renovating your home, vernacular architecture is a gold mine of inspiration on how to build living spaces in this country. This is something that many Filipino architects, designers, and builders keep in mind. Think pitched roofs, extended eaves, open verandas—architectural features that use passive cooling strategies for natural ventilation to decrease indoor temperatures, which in turn reduce energy-intensive air cooling.
With the current oil crisis unfolding, going back to the traditional ideas of building in this climate may be wise.
For Pinoyhemian decor, a new spin on tradition could be the use of modern indigenous materials like rattan, coconut, bamboo, shell, and others. Choose materials that have undergone and continue to undergo iterative innovation. Reap the benefits of sustainability and advanced performance, among others.
The Message of the Kinship Palette
The colors of the KINSHIP palette are intense and vivid. This palette is not for the timid. It is for the bold and courageous. This kind of mindset is what we need in today’s world.
It is a reminder that if we are to survive, we must open ourselves up to defining tribe not along bloodlines but to equating tribe with the human race.
