Home decorator hobbyist Jean is back with another video showing a digital makeover of a Tita Rose’s dining area in her retirement home in the probinsiya. The house has such good bones with local architectural details that she wants to keep. And rightly so.

New homeowners who just love the local architecture and interior design style buy some of the elements and install them in a new house at great expense. In her design, Jean makes use of the calado, wooden fretwork for light and ventilation, installed at the top of the walls right flush against the vaulted ceiling, as well as the glass panels framing some windows and the front door.

The brief from Tita Rose is to revamp the open kitchen and dining area so she can accommodate more guests, family and friends who visit her regularly. And as she mentioned, the long drive means that her guests arrive hungry.

For the walls

Painting is one of the most cost-effective and easiest way to improve the look of a room. Surface preparation is very important so don’t skip this step. Here’s the Boysen way to prepare concrete surfaces.

If you see water stains on the wall, then you must check closely if there is a leak. Find out where it comes from and have a professional look at it. Do not attempt to paint the wall to hide the stains because your paint job will just end up looking horrible after a few months.

Jean opted for two warm neutrals from the Boysen Permacoat Latex line in the same color family—a light tan called Yellow Page | BCP-0286 and a biscuit hue called Blonde Shell | BCP-0170. Permacoat is a 100% acrylic paint with excellent hiding and outstanding durability. It’s high quality ensures that your properly prepared walls would look great for a long time.

Wainscoting was added on the wall facing the entrance. Boysen Quick Drying Enamel coats this wooden surface in the color Medium Gray | B-631. This alkyd type paint has an exceptionally high gloss level that leads to an excellent, long-lasting finish.

For other wooden surfaces

The vaulted ceiling and dining table get a makeover too with Boysen Oil Wood Stain in the color Mahogany Full Tone | B-2707. For the main door and dining chairs, Jean chose Maple Half Tone | B-2705. Boysen Oil Wood Stain highlights wood grain and adds freshness and color. It provides superb protection for interior woodworks.

Like the wainscoting, the kitchen island and cabinets are in Boysen Quick Drying Enamel Medium Gray | B-631. The hanging kitchen cabinet is in Boysen Quick Drying Enamel Silver Gray | B-630. For the calado, the color Maroon | B-673 is used.

Rustic Chic Dining Room

It’s important to have an open space wherein everyone fits comfortably, and this is exactly what Jean’s digital makeover provides.

Visiting senior relatives like grandparents for a meal during weekends is one of the wonderful family-bonding moments we all can do. We usually have our own favorite dishes cooked by them. But if they are at an age where preparing meals for extended families becomes a burden for the oldies, have a potluck instead. You all get to enjoy each other’s presence without having only one or two people take on the responsibility of feeding everyone. This is also a good chance for grandchildren to show off their own specialty to the family.
