Gen Z (1997-2012) and Gen X (1965-1980) are transforming the walls in their homes into canvasses where they paint or draw whatever inspires them and gets their creativity flowing. According to Pinterest, this kind of play is another home decor trend for 2025.

Actually, if you have been following this blog since we started in 2016 as well as our other social media pages that have been around for longer, you’d notice that we have been talking about painting your art on the walls. We just call it murals. Our YT page is full of tutorials on how to make murals on your walls. And our FB and IG pages also feature murals regularly. Even our exhibits feature huge artworks where visitors can try new paint colors from the Boysen Color Trends.

Renowned Artists

I have written about two artists that use paint color to make an impact in living spaces. First, there is French architect Emmanuel Moreau who invented “shikiri,” a spatial principle that uses different colors to divide a space. Click on the link to see her work.

Another artist Nathalie Lété, who is also French, painted her country home with flowers and botanicals, from the ground floor to the upper floors. She used her art to inspire her during the Covid lockdown. You can check out her work here.

Yet another artist, also French, is Claire Basler who decorated her chateau with large-scale floral murals. Claire believes that flowers are a source of healing and inspiration, so she brought them into her home. See the video below for a taste of her art.

Play and Paint

The good thing about this trend is that you don’t need to be an artist to paint your walls. You just need inspiration, perspiration, and boldness.

You don’t have to paint anything complicated either. Just match your art with the skills. You can even use someone else’s work for inspiration. Abstract would be my choice because I don’t know how to draw. You can use the dots of Damien Hirst, also Yayoi Kosama’s polka dots, the playfulness of John Armleder with his wild splashes of color, or the energetic line drawings in primary colors of Keith Haring…

There are so many artists whose works can spark the creativity in you. But maybe you will find that you don’t need an external spark because you have that in you. Just give yourself permission to play! You can start with a powder room if you want to start small.

You can also ask your BFFs to help you paint. Make it a weekend project. Promise yourselves first that there will be no blaming and no judgments. Turn on your favorite playlist and turn it up. Prepare some food and drinks to make it really fun and a source of more beautiful memories with people you love.

If you hate it, rinse and repeat.

Cost-Effective and Impactful

That’s the beauty about paint. It is cost-effective and adds personality to any space. To make it not only fun but also comfortable, choose odor-less paint like Boysen Healthy Home, which is also antibacterial. Know what you need to do beforehand with preparing your surface.

So, if you want an impactful transformation, discuss the artwork in advance, then head on to the Boysen Mix and Match Station to get the colors you’d need. Don’t forget to buy the tools.

Then, when it’s show time, give your right brain more room to express itself, and check in that sensible, logical part of you at the door before you paint your canvas.
