This second Christmas mini makeover is, as Jean describes it, an eclectic look that combines boho and cottagecore with a Filipino twist. Watch the video to see what she means.

Cottagecore

The cottagecore interior design style came out during the pandemic, when people were imagining rural life and thinking that it was safer to get out of urban areas and breathe in the fresh air of the probinsiya. There was even a period when mushroom-shaped home accessories were a thing.

At the time, fantasies were about planting your own vegetable garden, baking your own bread, hanging laundry outside to dry in the sun.

This style seems to resonate with Gen Z with their love for natural materials, and are open to styling their homes with vintage, retro, and pre-loved things. Nostalgia seems to be a great driver in their creating a space that is authentic and fits their description of home.

Rural Escapism

Homebound: Rural Escapism as a Way to Deal With the Quarantine

Forecasters came up with Rural Escapism as a trend during the pandemic. It was all about slow living, getting the hygge vibes into your home, and embracing the joys of daily life. Mindfulness was a key to living a grateful, contented life. It reminds me of dolce far niente (the art of doing nothing) with its simple, peaceful pleasures of doing nothing except living in the moment.

But it’s been two years since the pandemic and our world seems to experience more turbulence, both man-made and natural.

For this Christmas, I suggest we have a gratitude mindset. It boosts our energy, and zaps away negative thoughts and feelings. Being more positive and confident is a good way to end a year and start a new one.
