Here’s what NOT to do: leave Boysen Plexibond exposed without a topcoat. Allowing Boysen Plexibond, a waterproofing product, to be directly exposed to sunlight and heavy rains leads to a higher likelihood of cracks. And, cracks are how you get leaks and water seepage. This is why Boysen technical engineers always advise applying the appropriate topcoat over Boysen Plexibond. Here are your best options.
(Note: If you decide to use any of the products below for your Plexibond surface, remember to follow the proper painting system for each, including the recommended primer and putty.)
Boysen Permacoat Latex
For walls
A common use for Boysen Plexibond is for vertical concrete surfaces such as firewalls. Firewalls act as shields in the event a neighboring property catches fire. To make them as fire-resistant as possible, firewalls have no openings and, thus, they come in contact with a lot of water when it rains. If your home has a firewall and you’ve applied Plexibond as waterproofing, you’ll need a topcoat too.
Boysen Permacoat Latex is a go-to paint product for concrete walls that can be used for both interiors and exteriors. It’s a 100% acrylic paint which makes it outstandingly durable, excellent at hiding imperfections and flaws, and dirt pick-up resistant. You get a lot of standard colors to choose from and thousands more at Boysen Mix & Match stations.
Boysen Acrytex
For walls
For a topcoat for Boysen Plexibond that’s extra durable, go for Boysen Acrytex. An acrylic solvent-based paint product for concrete exteriors, Boysen Acrytex offers long-term durability and weatherability. It adheres firmly to the surface it’s painted on making it unlikely that you’ll see it crack, flake, peel, yellow, or discolor.
Not only that, it can also provide even more protection from water and moisture. When applied, Boysen Acrytex creates a non-porous film that can repel water and prevent seepage, giving your surface an extra shield against heavy downpours.
Boysen Acqua Epoxy
For floors
Aside from vertical surfaces like firewalls, Plexibond can also be used on concrete floors that come in contact with water and moisture like bathrooms and roof decks. For roof decks in particular, as you would typically want this painted and not tiled, you can use Boysen Acqua Epoxy as topcoat after applying Plexibond.
Boysen Acqua Epoxy is a paint product formulated to be used on floors as it can withstand foot traffic and light vehicular traffic as well. With excellent durability, Acqua Epoxy is solvent-, chemical-, and stain-resistant. It has good gloss retention and UV resistance.
Because it’s water-based, it’s also easier to work with than solvent-based paint products. However, as an epoxy paint, this product is best applied by experienced painters or professionals. Painting instructions can be found here.
