If you’re a subscriber to the blog—first of all, thank you. I’m sure you’re finding great value with the room paint ideas and how-to guides we’re sharing. If there’s something we also love to share, it’s different color palettes you can use for designing your home. But what are color palettes for anyway?
Color Palettes As Guides for Designing Your Home
When creating an aesthetically pleasing home space, color is an essential element that contributes to the character of your home. You can use color palettes as visual guides you can immediately refer to, as these are created through the selection of colors that are harmonious and complementary.
In our blog, we take inspiration from different sources from scenic landscapes and sweet delights, to historical eras and fashion trends. We also consider color psychology, thinking about what colors homeowners want for their home. We identify specific paint colors and organize them in lovely palettes to be used as reference.
Boysen, in particular, also develops Boysen Color Trend every one or two years. The intense and careful development process produces paint color palettes that are timely and relevant. The unveiling of Boysen Color Trend 2026/2027 may have generated interest in color palettes and how to use it for your home.
These color palettes aren’t specific for paint colors, though. Yes, our palettes list the specific paint color names that you can use for your walls, but you also use these palettes to identify the closest color for other fixtures you would use in your home spaces.
That’s why some of our articles not only include palettes but moodboards too, so you can visualize textures, shapes and materials that look good together. Though generally, palettes should be enough to think about what a good-looking room can look like.
How to Use Color Palettes
Here are some additional tips when using color palettes as reference when designing your home.
Review your existing space
Often, you don’t need to start from bare space when designing your room. Before selecting a color palette for your home, you first need to check your existing furniture and other decorative fixtures.
You may want to base your palette from architectural elements that are hard to change like your floorings. For example, select a palette based on the color (or colors) of your floor tiles to be able to choose which paint colors are a possible match. On the other hand, prominent pieces such as a couch with a striking color, or a classic wood cabinet are great starting focal points when picking colors. It’s important to see how you want to transform your home from how it already exists.
Test out paint colors
If you now want to create a visually impactful look through color, the next step is to decide on paint colors. One of the most useful things about colors coming in sets is that you can use palettes to help narrow down your choices.
This is where paint samples come into play. By buying online, or visiting Boysen’s The Color Library, you can get paints in 200 mL which you can then use to test out the colors by how it appears in your room.
Select furniture to complete the look
The steps needed to complete the look of your home include the careful selection of the items that belong in the space you’re designing. Relocate (or discard if you’re seeking to declutter) furnishing that disrupts the color harmony of the room.
Some more high-end choices include reupholstering your furniture, using wallpaper, or repainting your cabinets as well. What’s important is to match your furniture color with ones indicated in your palette.
Important: Don’t forget to follow the 60-30-10 rule in interior design. Proportion is important when designing a look based on a palette. Unless you’re going for a conceptual look that uses color in equal measure (like color blocking), it’s better to allow colors to complement each other for a balanced look.
You Can Create Your Own Palette!
If you visited Boysen in the Philippines International Furniture Show (PIFS) at SMX Convention Center in the first week of March, you may have been able to create your own palette. Drawing from hues from Boysen Color Trend 2026/2027, exhibit-goers had the chance to test out the colors on physical swatches by picking the colors and painting it themselves.

I had a chance to observe the designers and students pick which colors resonated with them. Some based it on their favorite colors, while some just went with which colors they vibed with the most.
Essentially, while color palettes already exist for you to use and enjoy, you yourself also have your own creative eye at selecting which colors go well together. When designing your home, it is your personal space anyway, so feel free to explore the many colors for your home.
To help with that, download the official Boysen app or visit the website for digital swatches of paint colors. Enable yourself the liberty of designing your own home. Happy painting!
