We are in the last days of the Year of the Wood Snake, a time described by many as a year of introspection and quiet recalibration, when we were called to understand ourselves more deeply and to align what is skewed or shed what no longer serves us. We are supposed to prepare ourselves for the Fire Horse that will be entering on February 17, 2026.
The Year of the Fire Horse is expected to be a time of intense energy, rapid change, independence, and significant events. It would be a time of momentum, motion, and action. We would be asked to meet what comes our way with a boldness grounded in the wisdom gained from the learnings of the past year, to trust our instincts, and to choose freedom over familiarity.
Colors for Your Home in the Fire Horse Year
From the colors recommended by Chinese astrologers for the coming year, we’ve chosen two—green and gold. Green is for balance and grounding, but also for vitality and growth, and gold is for good fortune, prosperity and wealth.
Other colors mentioned are red hues like tangerine or vermilion. However, I think it best to leave out these fiery shades, and instead focus on green and gold to balance the energy and passion that the Fire Horse is expected to bring this year.
We made two color palettes for you and show how these can work in two rooms in the house.
Living Room

This modern, minimalist living room has the colors of a pale gray green, and a deeper but still muted brighter green, accented by a deep yellow and brown with gray undertones.
Bedroom

The greens for the the bedroom surfaces and furnishings are serene and subdued, hues that offer tranquility and encourage rest.
Different shades of yellow, like mustard, amber, and citrine, can be added in the palette to represent abundance and joy. Use gold accents to enhance the positive energy and to attract wealth and success.
Earth Tones
Add earth tones, like the colors of chocolate or espresso, to balance the fire energy and make your home feel harmonious and welcoming.
Also, trend followers may be interested to know that the cool, all-gray tones that have been a staple for home design for about 15 years are now shifting to warmer, earthy tones. Greige and taupe, which are blends of gray and brown, are good transition colors for those who don’t want to let go of gray. If this is you, take note that greige has green or cool undertones which are perfect for modern minimalist spaces, while taupe has pink undertones like mushroom that would look good in rustic, cozy spaces.
Strive for Balance
Astrologers and feng shui masters forecast a volatile, intense, and passionate year ahead. The Year of the Fire Horse is expected to be a catalytic year where old stagnant patterns are going to be broken down, at even greater speeds because it brings a “double fire” energy (Yang Fire year + Horse).
The best thing to do is to create a home that will help you keep your balance, where intense fire energy can be tempered because of the muted color palettes so you can find peace and rest. It’s not a year to cocoon in your comfort zone though. Sharpen your emotional discipline and avoid over-stimulation.
If you are not planning to repaint your surfaces, then try to bring in the colors of green and gold where you can through small home accessories. And if you haven’t done so yet, declutter and deep clean your home, let fresh air and sunlight in, and dispose or repair broken items.
Get ready. Change is in the air and the Fire Horse is bringing it.
