Color can change the size, shape, and volume of a room. It can also change the mood in a room. This is the reason why paint is considered by architects, interior designers, and homeowners as one of the most effective tools that you can use to make or change the impact of a living space. What’s more, using paint is also one of the easiest on the pocket in builds, renovations, or refurbishments.

Color Psychology

Color can affect our perception and mood, which could in turn, affect our behavior. This is why understanding color is important in product design, marketing, and even therapy.

The first thing to think about when you are ready to paint your home with different colors is to be clear about your color story. In this post, let’s make the color story about creating a space that exudes happiness and joy.

The Joyful Energy of Pastels

Color story is the curation of colors to present a narrative. If the aim is to make a happy home, then bright colors are your friends. They don’t have to be saturated. Pastel colors can bring in that bubbly, joyful, and warm ambience as you go from room to room.

Color Suggestions for Different Rooms

These are just examples of what colors to use in different rooms in the house. However, if you want your color story to be something else, trust your instincts.

Home Entrance

Would you like to deviate from the usual whites or browns for your front doors? Some of us may not have that option if living in a condo building, for example, where there are clear rules about this.

If you have a say in what color your front door or gate can be, then start the color story right there. Add the paint color of the exterior walls too in the narrative. People (like riders or messengers) wouldn’t have a difficult time looking for your home if you tell them, for example, “Watch out for that bright red door.”

Hallway

Make coming home a joy by having rays of sunshine light up the place with a warm and joyful yellow. We all need a booster so what better way is there than to have a bright hallway greet you when you come in the door.

Living Room

Red is a dominant and powerful color. Painting it in living room walls create a warm ambience, perfect for this space where get-togethers and other social events take place.

Use it with care because it can get overwhelming. Either go for a more toned-down red like terracotta or carmine, or be bold and use a scarlet hue on an accent wall.

Dining Room

Most people rarely reach for hyacinth to paint their dining rooms with. But why not? First, it definitely makes for a good talking point with guests. The lavender color gives off a cool and calming feel, and is perfect paired with the green curtain. Meals should be taken in peaceful surroundings where deeper connections with family and friends can take place.

Bedroom

Green works well in bedrooms. These light green colors that are similar to pistachio and pear blend well with the neutral colors of the bed linen. These muted shades convey peace and security, and can definitely help you to wind down so your body can court sleep more easily.

Bathroom

For an ensuite bathroom, choose colors that match the hues in the bedroom, in this case, the muted greens. This pale beige wall echoes the colors of the bed linen. With the wall mural in bamboo, you’ve got a great color story going with bringing in colors from nature to revitalize you.
