Last Sunday, you may have witnessed the lighting of the first candle of the Advent wreath in your church, or you may also have lit one yourself at home. For Christians, the season of Advent has begun, a meaningful period of anticipation for the birth of Jesus Christ.
The colors during this season, such as the colors of the candles in an Advent wreath that are lit during each Sunday, hold important symbolic meanings. It invites us to think about the true essence of our gift-giving and caroling sessions. Sometimes, it is good to remember that the purples of Advent are more than just purples.
If you ever are in the mood to use shades to complement your holiday decorations or find graceful hues that work great all throughout the year, consider these colors that you can associate with the virtues of Advent.
HOPE

Optimistic anticipation is the theme remembered during the first week of Advent, setting a hopeful tone for the season. This purple embarks with wishful thinking for this season, appropriate for your bedroom or living room. Be inspired by good things coming next year, and may your hopes and dreams be pleasant and sweet.
PEACE

While vibrant, this shade is meditative. It is a reminder to seek peace in times that can be turbulent. Like the gentle stroking of a brush, this color is grounding and a reminder to center oneself amidst the chaos of the holidays, or your own internal strife. Use in a space of solace like a reading nook or dining area.
JOY

In the third week of Advent, a pink candle is lit up to symbolize excitement. A child-like excitement, a jubilant pink can abound the halls and corridors of your home like a beaming kid who cannot wait for Christmas to come. Sometimes this innocence is necessary for a joy that exudes gratitude and kindness.
LOVE

The last purple candle is lit for the week before Christmas. Let this purple remind you of what the season could mean. Capture precious moments in the presence of your family and friends. Make time for forgiveness, and cultivate a space of care. At the end of the day, this season is all about love.
Warm Wishes This Advent Season
It is during this time that I feel Advent to be more festive than Christmas itself. Waking up at dawn to attend Simbang Gabi, putting up decorations, and planning parties are all activities I always adore during the days leading to Christmas. Though for many Christians, Advent may be more than festivities, it being an opportunity to seek reflection and guidance.
With colors, you can express your spiritual connection or be instilled with serene feelings. Even when Advent and Christmas pass by, the hues that color this season can keep the virtues of the holidays constant.
