You don’t want mold in your home. When you spot it, you need to treat it. And, no, simply wiping it away or painting over it is not going to get rid of it. If you’re planning to repaint a wall infested with mold, you’ll need to address the problem correctly before you start repainting. Here’s how.
Treating Molds on Painted Walls
Mold and mildew appear as fuzzy or slimy dark spots on your wall and can give a room an unpleasant musty odor.
They thrive in moist and humid environments. So, you’re more likely to see it in bathrooms and kitchens, and it can be a particularly pesky problem during the rainy season. Homes in coastal regions are also, unfortunately, more prone to mold and mildew infestations due to high humidity and moisture in the area.

Here’s how to treat molds on painted walls. Follow these before repainting concrete walls or as part of regular maintenance and home cleaning.
Step 1
Prepare a diluted bleach solution by adding 1 part bleach to 3 parts water. Using a brush or sponge, apply this mixture to the moldy painted surface.
Step 2
Wait 24 hours to allow the bleach solution ample time to treat the mold.
Step 3
Clean the surface with water to remove any remaining residue from the bleach solution. When your wall is dry, you’re ready to repaint.

Mold-Resisting Paints
Prevention is better than cure. Boysen carries paints that are mold-resistant. Take note, if your wall is already moldy, they cannot and will not treat the mold for you. These are not anti-mold products; rather, they help prevent mold and mildew infestations. If you know that your walls are prone to mold, consider painting with these.
