Rooms Reimagined is back with another episode, this time with Jean helping out a foodie entrepreneur revamp her kitchen to meet her needs better.
The client is Leila, a designer who loves color and who also loves cooking. Leila started a foodie business, a pop-up restaurant. Her growing business demands something more from her kitchen which is why she needs a remodel.
Leila’s needs are quite simple, and they’re as follows:
- her peg for the look is a Japanese cafe
- better storage to improve her workflow
- she wants bold colors in her kitchen
Recommended Boysen Products for the Digital Makeover
For the walls
Jean went with a vibrant ochre called Child of the Moon | BCP-0914 from the Boysen Permacoat Latex line. This paint is ideal for interior and exterior surfaces such as concrete, brick, plaster, and drywall. This 100% acrylic paint has excellent hiding and outstanding durability.
For the wall unit and cabinet
For the wall unit and the cabinet opposite it, Jean chose Boysen Xyladecor, a solvent-based, deep penetrating type of stain that combines decorative, water repellent, and wood preserving properties in one. This product also prevents the growth of mold and fungi. All these features make Xyladecor an excellent choice for a kitchen.
In terms of looks, Xyladecor dries to a silk matte finish and emphasizes the grain, bringing out the natural beauty in any kind of wood.
For this makeover, Jean selected two Xyladecor colors—BX101 Colorless for the wall unit, and BX-107 Mahogany for the cabinet.
The organic feel would perfectly fit Leila’s peg of a kissaten, a Japanese cafe. Contrary to the popular Japanese design aesthetics of using colors like timber, white, gray, and cream with touches of green and navy, Leila’s kitchen has ochre as the dominant color. This gives the vintage vibe of a kissaten, a place known for its calm and cozy atmosphere where Japanese people go to unwind.
Accent colors
For the accent colors of green (Nile Green | B-650) and deep blue (Royal Blue | B-640), Jean chose the product Boysen Quick Drying Enamel. This is an alkyd-type paint that is meant for wood surfaces like the cabinet doors and bar stools. This is also a good paint to use for metal surfaces.
Boysen Quick Drying Enamel provides substantial durability. It is formulated to give a tough and beautiful finish on wood and metal surfaces. Its superior hiding properties, combined with an exceptionally high gloss level, lead to an excellent, long-lasting finish.
