No doubt about it, a little bit of paint goes a long way. It can be a hassle moving stuff around but the end result is totally worth it. Because we love the look of freshly painted walls, we asked the Boysen Technical Service Department when it’s appropriate to embark on a repainting project. Here’s what they said.

When You NEED to Repaint

Common Painting Problems: What is Mildew? | MyBoysen

A need to repaint often comes from a need to make repairs. Steps to fixing many paint problems like blistering, peeling, rusting, and saponification can vary, but they will often require you to strip your surface to bare and then repaint as a final step.

Per Boysen technical engineers, a crucial problem to especially watch out for is cracks. Cracks can lead to water seepage and leaks which can then, in turn, cause a whole host of paint problems. Repairing cracks often requires a fair bit of work including fixing any water seepage if there is any. The aftermath of such will require you to repaint your walls.

When You WANT to Repaint

Problems aside, how aged and worn out your paint looks can also be a factor when you feel the need to repaint. Fading and discolored paint, for example, isn’t particularly pleasing to the eyes. Stains and dirt that don’t seem to come off aren’t very nice to look at either.

Simply wanting a change in color can also be a reason for a repaint. We’re all for a room revamp or trying out new styles for your interiors. One of the fastest ways to make an impact in a space is to change the color of the walls.

How to Prolong Repainting

Learn About Lightfastness

Lightfastness and How to Keep Your Paint from Fading Too Fast | MyBoysen

All paint coatings exposed to the sun will fade over time. Where they differ is in how fast their color fades. Lightfastness is how well your paint—particularly the pigments or colorants in it (a.k.a. the stuff that gives it color)—can resist fading due to UV exposure.

Knowing this, manufacturers formulate paint products so that they possess qualities suitable to where they’re meant to be used. Exterior paints will often have excellent lightfastness as they are exposed to the sun a lot. Interior paint products, on the other hand, will have less. So, when they’re exposed to excessive UV light, it can cause paint problems including fading, chalking, blistering, and more.

Go for High-Quality Paint
