Every time Boysen comes out with a Color Trend, I find myself drawn to a particular one because I find that the paint colors and the combination fit my taste. Such is the case with BE YOU, a color palette from 2018.
BE YOU Palette
The BE YOU color palette is an invitation to all to relax and be in balance.

The BE YOU palette is a harmonious selection of neutrals and blues that can give homes a stylish and elegant look. The dark blue of New Breed and the bright Blue for You act as ballasts to the mid-tones of Strange Brew, Private Stock, Skin is In and the light mint green of Bluegrass Suite.
It’s easy to pick out two or three colors from the palette, and follow the 60-30-10 rule used by interior designers to create a visually harmonious space. This means:
- 60% of the room has the dominant color which would serve as the foundation and backdrop,
- 30% is the secondary or support color found in curtains, area rugs, accent walls, and big furniture,
- 10% is the splash of color used on small decorative items like throw pillows, coffee table centerpieces, or lamps, to make the room more interesting and vibrant.
The Paint Color Blue for You
Of all the colors, the bright Blue for You is my favorite because it is a standout. It has a shade similar to royal blue or lapis lazuli, a color that was precious and not easy to make thousands of years ago, so much so that it became the color of royalty because it was wildly expensive to acquire. I’m glad things have changed so we can just easily get this paint color and coat our homes with it.
Bold and immersive, this vibrant blue pulls people in and makes them feel tranquil and grounded in the moment.
Watch this video we made for BE YOU seven years ago. In reminiscing about this color palette, I feel that this combination of colors is so current and fits the world we find ourselves in today.
Relax into Your Being
The influence of social media on mental health has been studied for many years now. A gamut of issues like depression, anxiety, loneliness, sleep disruption, and poor body image are just a few of the negative effects of social media use.
The growth of the beauty industry exploded during the same period together with the rise of the beauty gurus. And if despite the face paint, one is still not satisfied with how one looks, there are also the many beauty filter apps that can be applied to virtually smooth skin, fix make-up, and reshape facial features. Just don’t agree to meet ups. The constant chase for youthful looks has also birthed exercise gurus, diet coaches, even medical doctors (or maybe they aren’t) who are pushing drugs or surgical procedures that promise the miracles of the Fountain of Youth. There’s so much more noise out there these days, such as influencers for anything under the sun, independent “journalists”, even long-form AI videos that regurgitate info and opinion about the world economy, global politics, natural disasters, and wars.
As far back as 2015, then 18-year-old Australian model Essena O’Neill quit her social media channels despite having nearly a million followers, because she said, “Social media is not real life.” Maybe it’s time for us to follow her lead and give the internet a wide berth, or spend less time in virtual reality if we can’t completely unplug. You may have noticed that the algorithm keeps changing so that our news feed now contains more ads from companies, or posts from prominent pages and influencers. The algo doesn’t care about sharing friends’ posts so you can also imagine that your squad is not seeing your updates too, just like you’re not seeing theirs.
It’s time to level up the bonding with your barkada, and schedule a hangout. What better place to do it than in a home that’s ready to embrace each and everyone’s quirks and encourage each other’s magic to come out. With beloved friends and family by your side, you are in a safe space to just be yourself, and the same goes for them too.
Here’s the invitation from BE YOU:
Hello, You!
Relax into your being
and respect your uniqueness
because you’re perfect as you are.
The moment you accept yourself,
you are truly free.
