Filipinos are known to bathe once or twice a day to beat the heat and humidity. Even on cooler months like December and January, the habit is so ingrained that we still do our daily ablutions. This is a reason why the bathroom is a very important room in a Pinoy home.

We prefer to stand in the shower or slip into a bath, instead of just punas. Pinoys are not fazed by fluctuations in water supply as experienced in many places in the Philippines. We use the trusty tabo at timba to make sure we have a supply of water even if we experience rotational interruptions. Sometimes, one finds the Boysen can in the bathrooms of our kababayans, which is a very practical idea since the Boysen timba is very durable and worthy of upcycling.

The Bath Cave

For our bathroom moodboard, we wanted to be aspirational and sosi so no tabo at timba here.

We opted for a dark bathroom, worthy of a drama queen, a Goth, a Byronic hero, or a “bad boy”. Or it could be for anyone who wants to push the creativity envelope and move away from the usual white bathroom. It could work as your very own posh spa where you do your pampering…every single day.

Boysen Products Used in the Moodboard

Paint Colors

Gray, black, dark brown, and light neutrals create sophistication and balance in the space. We like the vibe to be deeply contemplative or dramatic, not morose. After all, this is a sanctuary where you take refuge in order to renew yourself.

Black is used as an accent color on the wall and cabinet treatment. Touches of beige and sand can be found in the bath accessories.

Oil Wood Stain

If you want to have wood in your bathroom, the best Boysen product to protect it would be Boysen Xyladecor. It is a solvent-based, deep penetrating type of stain that is water repellent and also has wood preserving properties. In a high moisture space (the highest in the house, in fact), this would come in handy to protect your wood surfaces.

Konstrukt Lunar Series: Kaza

The Moodboard Project: The Bath Cave

The Kaza cement faux finish in the Konstrukt Lunar Series has a linear design that can be etched horizontally or vertically. If you want to make your bathroom appear wider, etch horizontally. If you want the space to look higher, you can draw the eye upwards by etching vertically.

Adding a faux cement finish is an excellent and cost-efficient way to get a minimalistic, industrial aesthetic without the heavy weight or expense of real concrete.

Concrete and Charcoal Charm

The Moodboard Project: The Bath Cave | MyBoysen

The primary color in this bath cave can be found in gray agate, a calming crystal that symbolizes balance, grounding, and stability, everything that you would want to get from a sanctuary.

There are no bright, intense hues in this bathroom. All colors are either dark or light neutrals. What keeps it from being boring are the textures that are found all over the bathroom, like the stones used on the floor, the roughness of the walls with the Kaza finish, the concrete bathtub and vessel sink. Brushed brass plumbing fixtures create a luxurious, warm contrast against the coolness of the dark colors.

Add natural touches like the woven rug, twigs, and coral decor. For the last one, be mindful of the environment and get an artificial one made of polyresin.
