It’s really hot these days. Not surprising for Holy Week in the Philippines. To the many who will be out and about observing the Semana Santa traditions like the Visita Iglesia, Siete Palabras, and processions, don’t forget to hydrate and take a breather in the shade.
Cool Color Palette
Are you planning on repainting your home interiors soon? Think of this cool color palette with pale refreshing blue as the primary color, as well as a couple of hues similar to those that become visible when sunlight brings out the iridescence in water.
This light blue is a good paint color to have all year round, and not only during the hot season. It’s a color that breathes serenity and tranquility. It can also be used in any room in the house—hallway, living room, dining room, kitchen, bedroom, and any place else—to bring that relaxing vibe all throughout the home.
Yummy Color Palette
This is such a gorgeous color palette that’s very fitting for homes in the tropics because of its airy and light feel.
How can you make this color palette work in your home?
- Use the light neutrals or the blue color to coat your walls.
- Paint your floors with any of the light neutrals, use white tiles, or light wooden floors.
- Use furniture made of wood, rattan, wicker, or bamboo to give your home an organic and tropical vibe.
- Pick the orange or pink colors on accent walls or as colors for your home accessories.
- Use the sheen of mother-of-pearl and shells to guide you.
- Textures and patterns of local weaves can be used to add some interest to the space.
- Use metallic colors or materials like brass, gold, and silver to add some luxurious shine to the space.
- Bring in natural light as much as you can. For places that need privacy, use glass blocks which are back in style.
- Terra-cotta pots with real greenery can be excellent decorations.
- Think about the lighting you will be using for the rooms so that when evening comes, your home will feel cozy and inviting,
Choose a Reflective Paint Sheen
Choose a paint sheen that is more reflective like gloss or semi-gloss to highlight that fresh and airy ambience, and make your home look brighter and feel more open. This is the perfect mood to welcome the tropical heat that summer brings, without it being oppressive because of the mostly cool colors in the palette. These paint finishes reflect natural light better and make the paint colors seem more vivid and bright.
Both paint finishes are durable and easy to clean. However, use glossy paint only on surfaces that are perfectly prepared, meaning the surface is flawless. If it has slight surface imperfections, select the semi-gloss finish to make these less noticeable.
A third option is the satin finish. It is not as reflective as gloss or semi-gloss, but it still has a moderate reflectivity that provides a soft glow instead of a high shine.
