Mushrooms are powerhouse sources of the fifth basic taste, that savory, “delicious” flavor called umami. These are also sources of inspiration for earthy hues that we can paint our homes with.

Mushroom Umami

Here are five Boysen colors that would enhance the overall flavor of your home boosting it from blah to beautiful.

Woodsy

The earthy color of the gills is inspiring in itself. But the delicate, blade-like structure arranged radially also fuels creative thoughts about what furniture and accessories to get for your home. Soft curves and organic lines are currently dominant, a response to people’s need for comfort, warmth, and nurturing.

You can use this warm brown with a touch of cinnamon anywhere in your home. It offers a very rich, cozy aesthetic.

From Gray to Greige

Have you ever examined the gills of the common oyster mushroom? There are shades of greige in there. This color is a beautiful bridge between the gray of the past and the beige of the present. If you’re ready to give up your grays, and move to beige or light browns, this is a good color choice.

Tranquil Taupe

Taupe is a versatile color that gives a serene and calming vibe to any room. It’s a natural gray-brown color that evokes comfort, and elegance. This hue can fit in any interior style in an urban or rural setting.

Golden Brown

This color is like brass. It’s a muted yellow with hints of brown and gray. Brighten interiors with this hue. If you’re in the thick of renovating an old traditional Filipino home, this is the color that would give it an elegant, old-world finish. Make the house more interesting by adding natural materials like wood, stone, or brick. And if you are renovating or building a new home, this color would also be a good choice, since it works well for both heritage houses and new ones.

The Shaggy White Pompom

This shaggy mushroom called Lion’s Mane is white, and is an easy pick for those who are not so confident in choosing colors. You’ll never go wrong with this white because of its warm undertone. You can use this on most of your surfaces and add one or two from any of the other mushroom colors as accents.

Mushroom Colors

These earthy colors are popular in today’s interior design world, and also embraced by luxury brands and sustainable fashion houses. Here’s a design by Iris van Herpen, who created a fairy tale of bubbles on a mushroom-colored dress.

Since we are not into fashion in this blog, here’s a bedroom painted a mushroom color.

Next time you cook or eat mushrooms, look closely at their colors. They have such beautiful, warm tones that are worth copying. Make a collage of your chosen color palette. Add images or swatches of things that you think would fit in your design.
