I wrote about collages or inspiration boards for the four color palettes of Boysen Color Trend 2026-2027 called Currents. If you don’t know about the latest paint colors launched by Boysen, visit the website (https://boysencolortrends.com/) and get to know more about FORGE, FACE, YEARN, and TOUCH.
FACE Color Palette
The FACE color palette is a complex mix of happy and vibrant colors inspired by cyberspace. Digital natives who are immersed in the virtual world would find these colors familiar, although this mix of non-primary and non-adjacent colors may be something new.
First, choose the dominant color (60% of surfaces) from the neutrals—the dark desaturated warm charcoal of Anonymous Author or the very, light, pale gray-green of Blur . Even the taupe Alter Ego is also a good choice, as well, to use as a dominant color in a room, and fits the trending use of brown earth colors in homes. Yummy mushroom tones are popular nowadays.
But as I always say, homeowners know best.
Steps to Make a Moodboard
Here are 5 steps you can do to make a moodboard. Make it fun and enjoy the dreaming and the creativity that goes with it.
1. Set the interior style
You know in your heart what interior style you’d like to have in your home. If you want two styles, follow this 80-20 rule in interior design.
The American Institute of Interior Design stated, “As long as 80% of your interior is unified by the same style, period, or philosophy, you can deviate with the other 20%.” Pin down your primary style first and use accents to show your second style.
2. Collect materials
When you are making a collage (this is the one we made for the FACE color palette), you usually already have magazine cutouts, fabric swatches, paint samples, tiles, etc. The more materials you have, the better so that you can really hone in on the things you’d like to see in your home when you make your moodboard.
3. Add inspiring imagery
Also, most people already have images of homes they use as pegs. Choose one and make that your centerpiece. You don’t have to slavishly follow what you see. Also consider the kind of feeling that looking at thie photo gives you.
4. Choose the color palette
Interior designers usually recommend having three colors—a dominant wall color, a secondary color for furniture or textiles, and an accent color for decor. Read about this 60-30-10 rule.
5. Curate and organize
It would be better not to paste your samples on a board but just have a table hold all your materials. You can then move things around until you get everything arranged in the way you exactly want, that would serve as a catalyst to inspire you further. When you feel that you’re moodboard is finished, that’s the time to stick the chosen materials on a board.
FACE Moodboard
Living Room

When young, digital natives hold in their hands the gateway to a cornucopia of designs, it is understandable that such an exposure to the digital world can pull them towards a style that they like. The possibility to dive deeper is easy because of technology, with algorithms helping them in their search. The challenge would be to not drown in all the possibilities.
The same goes for other age groups, even the boomers. The Philippines has 96 million active social media users, or about 82% of the total population. They, too, have access to the different interior styles from around the world.
The central photo above could serve as your entrance. Plonk down a whimsical art piece. Personally, I’d go for Finnish designer Eero Arnio’s iconic Puppy manufactured by Magis. It’s a multitasker—it’s a child’s toy, a stool, or a piece of abstract sculpture. Puppies not your cup of tea? There is the Horse Lamp by Swedish studio Front Design, produced by Dutch brand Moooi. But don’t limit yourself with these two I mentioned because there are so many quirky home accessories.
With this color palette, you can make unexpected spaces that are unique and eye-catching. That’s why fanciful pieces work.
Powder Room

Powder rooms, if your Pinoy home has that, are usually an afterthought. But you could also make it a statement space, like a “jewel box” that offers drama and mood that would stun your guests. Paint it with Circuit Gold and make it breath with light gray floors and cabinets. Use a deep brown or black bathroom faucet. Please note that color capping was used, where the ceiling is also in Circuit Gold.
