Hi, Lettie.

For the paint of our metal terrace made of checkered black iron steel plates, we’re planning on using Boysen Epoxy Primer in gray and Boysen Acqua Epoxy in green. I also want to put an extra glossy varnish on top. What is your recommendation?

Thank you for your swift response.

From,
Boysen User M

Hi, Boysen User M!

Thanks for your message. I agree with using Boysen Epoxy Primer as primer and Boysen Acqua Epoxy as topcoat for your metal terrace.

Epoxy paints are tough coatings for use on metal and concrete. It’s the addition of epoxy, which is a type of resin, in the formulation that makes these paint products extra durable. It’s what gives them the ability to withstand foot and vehicular traffic with the addition of being weather-, stain-, chemical-, and corrosion-resistant.

For your metal terrace, the system you’re planning on doing is as advised. Boysen Epoxy Primer is, indeed, recommended if you’re using Boysen Acqua Epoxy as topcoat.

However, I would not apply any other product on top of Acqua Epoxy. It is a capable topcoat on its own and already comes in a semi-gloss finish. Provided that the recommended surface preparation and painting instructions have been followed, your epoxy painting system should turn out beautiful and durable for several years to come.

Boysen Epoxy Primer

Boysen Epoxy Primer | MyBoysen

Boysen Epoxy Primer is a high-quality, two-component, epoxy-polyamide system that has exceptional adhesion to practically any surface. This includes steel tanks, coastal installations, galvanized iron, pipelines, aluminum, and structural steel. It is the recommended primer for Boysen’s epoxy products.

Boysen Acqua Epoxy

Boysen Acqua Epoxy | MyBoysen

Boysen Acqua Epoxy is a water-based acrylic epoxy paint that’s ideal for both interior and exterior concrete and metal floorings. Not only is Acqua Epoxy built to last, it also has outstanding abrasion resistance. This makes the paint able to withstand foot and light vehicular traffic. It’s also formulated to resist stains, solvents, and low concentrations of acid and alkali.

A Quick Reminder

Epoxy paints are typically 2-component paints. They come in two parts: the paint itself and its curing agent or catalyst. You get them both when you buy them at the store and you mix them together before you start painting. The two must be combined following the recommended ratio to achieve the intended results. Always check the label for instructions before use.
