We all get stuck in our own heads from time to time. Sometimes, all it takes is one bad thought or memory to cross our minds to completely sour the entire day. It might be because we’re not getting quality sleep or nutritious meals. Or, we forget to nourish our souls with prayer and guided meditation. Whatever the case may be, sometimes all we need is a quick reminder to get ourselves out of that funk. It will not completely fix your bad mood, but it’s a good place to start.

Endless Possibilities

We usually start the year writing down all the things we want to achieve in the next 12 months. We start out strong, hitting all our targets and goals. But, life always gets in the way and we start slowing down. The frustration grows and we think to ourselves, “Is this even worth it?” Please do not beat yourself up for plateauing. Always remember, growth is growth. No matter how small. Your “small” achievements every day compound to a huge feat over time.

Orange You Happy?

Scrolling through Instagram and Facebook is one of my guilty pleasures, as with other people. But, sometimes it gets to a point where I  start comparing my life to others. Why am I not on fancy vacations every month? Why isn’t my make up as good as hers? Oh, someone’s getting married again? I have to stop myself mid-thought and remember what people post on their social media accounts are their highlight reels. Even if it’s difficult not to, don’t compare your life to others. There is no comparison between the sun and the moon, they shine when it’s their time.

Sunny Mood

It’s hard to say no to people, especially if you grew up to be a people pleaser. It seems like your schedule is always fully booked, and your to-do list is never ending. Take a good long look at the things you’re doing. Are they still making you happy? Or are you just doing them because it’s what makes other people happy? Please, allot some time for yourself. Set your boundaries. Saying “no” gets easier over time, I promise.

Calmness

In today’s times, it’s all about hustle culture. It’s all about being a #GirlBoss, about glamorizing sleepless nights and caffeine-fueled mornings. We’ve internalized equating our self-worth with our productivity. We feel guilty when we take breaks. There’s this deep pit in our stomachs when we don’t finish our to-do list for the day. Hey, it’s totally okay to take a break. In fact, schedule it in. Allot some relaxing me-time. Trust me, the burnout isn’t worth it.

Quiet Peace

One of the worst feelings in the world is involuntarily staying up at night, unable to fall asleep because your mind is stuck in the vortex of cringing over past mistakes and worrying about the future. But, if we really think about it, there’s nothing we can do about the troubles of our past or the uncertainty of our futures, right? As Ivan Nuru states it, “If it’s out of your hands, it deserves freedom from your mind too.” What I’ve learned to do is to journal. After a blur of words, I usually feel a lot less anxious about what I’m worrying about.

Some Final Thoughts

As cheesy as it sounds, I personally keep a Pinterest board of these kinds of quotes as a reminder to be gentle with myself. We’re only human. We struggle and make mistakes…like all the time. You’d think by now it would be easier, right? Let these quotes serve as a reminder for all of us to just take a breather and to just freely exist. The world is a much more wonderful place than our minds can make it out to be sometimes.

Go ahead and download the quote or image that speaks the most for you today. Keep it in your albums or make it your wallpaper. Or, just write it down on a piece of paper and meditate on it. If you have any other quotes or sayings that you love, let us know! Send us an email at ask@myboysen.com. We’re always happy to hear from you guys!
