Good morning, Lettie.

I would like to inquire if Boysen Aquaseal can be a safe topcoat and sealer for bathroom flooring.

Thank you.

From,
Boysen User MR

Good morning to you too, Boysen User MR.

Thanks for your message. Though Boysen Aquaseal is indeed a clear sealer and topcoat designed to provide a surface with protection against water and moisture, it’s not suited to your bathroom flooring.

Boysen Aquaseal is meant for bare masonry and stone surfaces such as concrete, brick, rubble, and sandblast finishes. It’s not recommended to be applied on tiles. Unfortunately, Boysen does not carry a product that will suit your needs.

We do, however, have other products that you can use for your bathroom, including for waterproofing! Consider these for your next bathroom project.

Boysen Plexibond

Before installing your tiles, use Boysen Plexibond for waterproofing. And yes, you can use this on the floor of your shower area!

Boysen Plexibond | MyBoysen

Boysen Plexibond is a cementitious waterproofing system. It works by creating a seamless, impenetrable layer that disperses water upon contact. Because of this, Plexibond is applied in places that come in direct contact with water and moisture.

It is designed to be mixed with Portland cement prior to application. On bare concrete, before installing tiles, apply Boysen Plexibond. Aim for a smooth finish so you have an even surface to work with when it’s time to place your tiles.

Konstrukt All-Purpose Tile Adhesive

Now for the tiles. cement is often used for installing tiles. This is okay until you notice that your tiles develop what is known as “kapak” in colloquial terms. It’s when tiles become loose and even lift away from the surface. You’re especially prone to this when the adhesive you used to fix your tiles in place isn’t strong enough.

Konstrukt Tileworks | MyBoysen

Konstrukt All-Purpose Tile Adhesive is a cement-based adhesive formulated for installing and fixing ceramic tiles on horizontal and vertical concrete surfaces. It helps ensure you avoid loose tiles. When using, remember to dampen the substrate prior to the application of the tile adhesive.

Boysen Permacoat Latex

Want paint on your bathroom walls too? Get it in a semi-gloss finish. Semi-gloss is more water-resistant compared to less glossy finishes like matte and flat. Plus, it’s easier to clean.

Boysen Permacoat Latex | MyBoysen

Boysen Permacoat Latex is a 100% acrylic paint. This makes it outstandingly durable, excellent at hiding imperfections and flaws, and dirt pick-up resistant.

And, with Boysen Pemacoat Latex you get more than a thousand paint colors to choose from via the Boysen Mix and Match stations (list of locations here). It also has a wide selection of readily available colors for convenience.

If you need more guidance, the Boysen technical team is a phone call away at (02) 8363-9738 local 413 to 418. Good luck!
