Traffic paint has a specific use and purpose. In case you find yourself in need of it, Boysen is ready to provide. Take this as a quick introduction to traffic paint and Boysen’s traffic paint products.

What Traffic Paint is For

While a large chunk of the purpose of some paints is for aesthetics (who doesn’t want a beautiful color on their walls, right?), traffic paints are mainly for function.

Traffic paints are used to create markings on the ground to guide, direct, and warn road users. They make the road and other areas that cars and pedestrians use and share both efficient and safe for everyone.

Pavement markings most commonly appear as lines and symbols on the road. They will indicate and mean different things depending on how they appear—such as when a pavement marking line appears as solid or broken and in white or yellow.

The typical homeowner, of course, would not have to worry about painting public pavement markings. Traffic paint does become useful, however, if there are areas in your property that you feel could benefit from this type of paint, like parking areas.

1. Boysen Alkyd Traffic Paint

Boysen Alkyd Traffic Paint is a quick-drying, alkyd-based marking paint with excellent adhesion and durability. It is designed for use on street markings, curbs, and other areas where traffic lanes and safety zones are marked.

It is non-reflectorized and has a matte finish—these are its two main differences from Boysen Alkyd Reflectorized Traffic Paint. It’s available in three colors: white, yellow, and black.

For your primer, use Boysen Epoxy Primer diluted in a 1:1 ratio with Boysen Epoxy Reducer. Then, apply two coats of Boysen Alkyd Traffic Paint with a recoat interval of 8 to 12 hours. Remember, as with any concrete paint, curing time must be strictly followed. Allot a curing time of 3 days for foot traffic and 7 days for vehicles.

Note, however, that you should apply it on concrete surfaces only. Boysen engineers do not recommend it on other types of surfaces like asphalt or brick.

2. Boysen Alkyd Reflectorized Traffic Paint

Boysen Alkyd Reflectorized Traffic Paint is the reflectorized variant of Boysen Alkyd Traffic Paint. It has a similar purpose and the same desirable qualities with the addition of reflective glass beads. These make the markings more visible especially during nighttime and in dimly lit areas.

This paint product has a flat finish and is available in white, yellow, and black. The glass beads will naturally settle in the container, so before you apply it, you will need to mix the paint thoroughly until you get a smooth and even consistency.

Here’s an added note from Boysen engineers. Boysen Alkyd Reflectorized Traffic Paint is best applied where it will come in direct contact with traffic. In Filipino, mas maganda kapag nagugulungan. The beads’ reflective feature becomes most effective this way.

For primer, use Boysen Epoxy Primer diluted in a 1:1 ratio with Boysen Epoxy Reducer. Apply two coats of Boysen Alkyd Reflectorized Traffic Paint with a recoat interval of 4 to 6 hours. Allow a curing time of 3 days for foot traffic and 7 days for vehicles.

Happy painting and keep safe on the road!
