There are quite a few things to consider when picking paint for your home. There’s color, desirable paint qualities, and extra features. Then, there’s also sheen: gloss, semi-gloss, satin, matte, and flat. You’ll be picking one of these when choosing a paint product. In this blog post, we’re making a case for matte paints! Here’s why it might be the paint finish for you.

Hides Imperfections

Let’s start with a practical reason. One of the main benefits of choosing a matte paint product is that it can hide imperfections on your surface better compared to more glossy paints.

Glossy paints can make surface imperfections, like roughness and unevenness, stand out because of how light is able to bounce and play off it. Light bounces less off of matte paints so imperfections become less noticeable. So, if your surface isn’t as flawless as you’d hoped, definitely consider matte paints.

Reduces Glare

Glare is another downside of glossy paints. You may not notice it immediately but their reflective sheen can be uncomfortable, especially after a while or if the room gets a lot of sunlight.

Without the glare of glossy paints, matte paints become restful to the eyes. “A matte finish evens a surface, creating a muted block effect that helps the brain relax and escape the physical boundaries of the room,” says architect Anais Blehau, co-founder of Daab Design in London, to Architectural Digest.

This is one of the reasons why designers will typically recommend matte paint for areas people spend a lot of time in like the living room, bedroom, and dining area.

Looks Luxurious

The velvety and almost powdery appearance of matte paints tends to appear more luxurious compared to glossy paints. The soft appearance makes it beautiful and elegant to look at. Perfect if you want to make a room look a little more expensive!

It also showcases whatever hue you pick as it gives good depth of color when dried. Bright colors get toned down as well which means you likely won’t get a finished look that’s too loud or overbearing.

But Prone to Getting Dirty?

The downside of matte paints is that they’re more prone to dirt and grime. A general rule about paint finishes is that the “shinier” it is, the higher its resistance to dirt and the easier it is to clean. And, of course, matte paint doesn’t have a lot of shine. That being said, there is an exception to the rule—Virtuoso Silk Touch.

Virtuoso Silk Touch by Boysen

Virtuoso Silk Touch is Boysen’s premium matte paint for interior concrete surfaces. If you’re looking for beautiful paint for your room walls, this is it. It dries to a luxurious matte finish that’s easy on the eyes and smooth to the touch.

Moreover, it’s manufactured to have a surface protector so oil and dirt do not easily stick to it. This keeps walls looking freshly painted for longer. Being an easy-clean paint, you can just wipe it clean too.

And, it’s antibacterial. It can provide extra defense against bacteria like E. coli and Salmonella, and is resistant to mold, mildew, and fungi. A water-based acrylic paint, it’s also low-odor, low-VOC, and lead-free. What more could you ask for?
