When you’re new to painting, color may be top of mind when picking which paint product to buy. However, professionals will know that there’s more to it than that. Here are some paint qualities that you need to be looking for when choosing paint products for your home.

Good Hiding

Have you ever heard your trusted painter describe paint as “makatawan”? Good hiding is what they’re referring to. Paint with good hiding can be described as full-bodied or opaque. It can effectively conceal the surface it’s painted on so that even with just a few coats, you won’t be able to see the color of the surface underneath.

Paint with poor hiding will not be able to fully do so and it will take you several coats—more than you would with good quality paint—before you get an even-colored surface. With excellent hiding, you’ll need less paint and you’ll save on time and effort.

Good hiding becomes even more noticeable when you’re repainting a lighter wall color over a darker one. This is what makes Boysen Permacoat Flat Latex white an outstanding primer. When you’re repainting, it sufficiently covers your old paint ensuring that it will not affect the color of your new topcoat.

(Note that some paints, such as vibrant reds and oranges will require a special colored primer. If you’re getting paints in this color, check to see if you need it.)

Good Adhesion and Durability

In painting, adhesion is defined as how well a coating of paint sticks to a surface. It’s important because it has a direct effect on the durability and quality of your coating. You don’t want to see your paint job slowly developing problems just a few months after you’ve applied it. Good quality paint is durable and will last a long time without any defects.

Paints with good adhesion will last long and be better able to beautify and protect your surface. When there’s poor paint adhesion, the coating will deteriorate faster and you see paint problems like blistering, peeling, and flaking.

One Boysen paint product with excellent paint adhesion is Boysen Plexibond. It’s known to be very durable and long-lasting. It adheres so well to a surface that it stays put even in harsh weather conditions like heavy rains.

Resistant to Dirt

You want your paint to look like it was freshly painted for longer. Aside from the absence of paint problems that can ruin the smooth finish, being free of noticeable dirt and stains also plays a major part in making your painted surface aesthetically pleasing. Especially for exterior surfaces, like the façade of homes and buildings that you can’t very easily clean, good resistance to dirt is something to look out for.

For exteriors, Boysen Wallguard is a new breed of latex paint specially formulated for medium and high-rise buildings to have very high resistance to dirt, dust, smog, and mildew. Of course, you can use it for your home’s façade as well.

For interiors, there’s Virtuoso Silk Touch. Impressively, it’s both an easy-clean paint and comes in a beautiful matte finish. Matte paints are typically more prone to dirt and grime compared to glossy paints. But, thanks to the way Virtuoso Silk Touch’s formulation, it can easily be wiped clean.

Wide Range of Colors

Though not absolutely necessary, having a wide range of colors to choose from is a big plus when buying paint. Tastes and preferences differ and knowing you’ll be able to get the paint color that you want makes the process of buying paint easier and more enjoyable.

With Boysen, aside from the readily available paint colors of each product, you also have the option of tints and the Boysen Mix and Match stations. With tints, you can mix your own paint colors.
