Dear Lettie,

We applied Boysen Plexibond on our roof deck but after 2 hours it rained. Will it wash out?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hi, Boysen User L.

Thanks for messaging us at Let It B! We understand the difficulties of trying to waterproof a roof deck during the rainy season. Timing is important! Don’t worry though. We’ll get your roof deck waterproofed in no time.

So, it rained 2 hours after you applied Boysen Plexibond? Good news. Boysen Plexibond has a drying time of 2 hours. This means, more or less, the mixture you applied should have dried already before it rained.

With that said, you should still check how well it held up and if there are any damages. Cracks, for example, are not good.

If You See Cracks

You will need to reapply 3 to 5 additional coats on top of the Plexibond you already put down.

Wait for at least a day then apply 1 coat of a bond coat—a.k.a. just pure Boysen Plexibond straight from the container.

While the bond coat is still sticky, apply a mortar or concrete topping. You can then choose to install tiles or apply paint on top of the concrete topping.

If You Don’t See Cracks

Okay, so the Plexibond on your roof deck is in good condition and shows no damage from the rain. How far have you come in the process of waterproofing your roof deck? Have you applied the bond coat and concrete topping already? If not, that’s the next step.

On top of your Plexibond, apply 1 coat of a bond coat. If you don’t know what that is, it’s 1 coat of pure Boysen Plexibond straight from the container.

While the bond coat is still sticky, apply a mortar or concrete topping. You can then choose to install tiles or apply paint on top of the concrete topping.

Don’t Forget the Paint

If you need recommendations for the paint of your roof deck, I suggest Boysen Acqua Epoxy. It’s an exceptionally durable paint that can be used on concrete floors such as roof decks.

Boysen Acqua Epoxy solvent-, chemical-, and stain-resistant. It has good gloss retention and UV resistance as well. Because it’s water-based, it’s also easier to work with than solvent-based paint products.
