If you visited the Boysen booth in the different trade exhibits this year held in Manila, Cebu, Davao, Pampanga, and Iloilo, you may have noticed in some of them huge murals being painted by visitors using the colors of this year’s Boysen Color Trend Ascension. The murals are 3.4 meters in width and 2 meters in height. Many of our guests need a step stool to reach the upper portions.
This mural concept called the Boysen Color Stories was introduced in 2019. Each of the four Boysen Color Trend palettes of the year were creatively interpreted by four artists into murals. It was brought back in 2022 and now again in 2024. It is really a crowd pleaser. People get the chance to color the huge illustrations, and at the same time experience the paint palettes up close.
This is the second in four posts that gives a glimpse of the artist behind the mural and his creative process.
The Alchemy Palette Mural
The Alchemy color palette has bold and intense colors that can infuse drama and sophistication into a living space. Koi Pizarro was responsible for making the mural for this palette. Here is the Q&A.
What do you think about the Alchemy color palette?
When I first saw the palette, I felt like it was highly emotive because the colors were mostly vibrant and saturated. When I heard the storyline for the animated video about a musician’s creative block, I felt that the palette would fit perfectly. However, I felt skeptical whether I could pull it off. When I finished the artwork, I thought that the mural design fit well with both the palette and the video.
Describe your creative process for this project.
I started thinking about stones, crystals, gems, potions, and medieval/fantasy stories when I thought about the theme of the Alchemy color palette.
Then, I doodled and drew elements of alchemy and chemistry. like alchemists, potion bottles, the sun and the moon, and all sorts of stuff that I personally associated with the word alchemy, and my understanding of it based on my research.
But when I heard the storyline for the video, I drew a rock star and musical instruments with a mix of alchemy-ish style just like the Steampunk subgenre.
I kept refining the design and scrapped the idea of having a character in the artwork. I ended up with putting elements that had meaning to both music and alchemy. I used musical elements since they are also used to “mix” and create music just like mixing and refining in alchemy to form something new and better.
I focused on creating an artwork with symmetry, with the most important elements at the center, and smaller elements on both sides.
What do you feel about the colors in your palette? Choose your top 2 favorite colors from the palette.
I had a hard time using the palette since the colors are mostly vibrant and saturated colors.
My two favorite colors, among the six, are the purple Mage’s Cloak and the light gray Clear Quartz, which I used on the moon in the artwork. I like these colors the most since they give off a soothing and calming effect when put together. They also look simple and clean together, not too bright or loud and they kind of complement each other with their contrast.
What did you feel about the project?
At first, I was excited, but then I felt the pressure while doing the project because the theme was difficult to execute. I had a hard time mixing musical elements and alchemy together while still retain the connection between the two. I was actually happy with how it turned out once it was approved. I just wish I could’ve retained some elements like the potion bottles since I think they were nice aesthetically for the artwork, and with the color stories activity in mind, people would have more elements to paint.
I saw the Alchemy mural during an exhibit. I felt somewhat accomplished especially when some visitors said that it was their favorite. But I also feel a little disappointed with myself because I think I could have done better on some of the symbols I used.
Based on only the colors, what is your favorite color palette for Boysen Color Trend 2024-2025?
If solely based on the colors, I would have to say that the Artistry color palette is my favorite. I love that they hues are vibrant but not too saturated and bright, and they’re pleasing to look at.
The Alchemy Mural
Move the slider to the left and right to see the black and white and colored versions of Koi’s work. What is exciting about this though is that visitors to the booth follow their own aesthetics when they paint the mural. Also, most people do not know each other but still they seem to work together because the painted mural at the end of the exhibition looks great.
If ever you see our murals in a Boysen booth in upcoming exhibitions, don’t hesitate to approach us and pick up brush and paint. It is a relaxing activity, and can help you catch your breath as you go around the big hall.

Koi Pizarro
Koi also gets to man the Boysen booth sometimes. I hope that his work is the one installed if the booth includes the Color Stories concept.
He also helped the blog team out with the animation for House to Home.
