Pantone revealed two colors for 2021—PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating which is a cheerful yellow and PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray. These two colors are the “Pantone® Color of the Year selection for 2021, two independent colors that come together to create an aspirational color pairing, conjoining deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the optimistic promise of a sunshine filled day.
“The selection of two independent colors highlight how different elements come together to express a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting, conveying the idea that it’s not about one color or one person, it’s about more than one. The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. “Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a color combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted, this is essential to the human spirit.
The Pantone Color of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that color can hope to answer.” added Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. “As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication, and a way to symbolize thoughts and ideas, many designers and brands are embracing the language of color to engage and connect.” (Pantone)
Boysen’s Closest Color Match for Pantone 2021
In 2017, we collaborated with SM Home to make room vignettes in their Makati Branch using Boysen paint colors. One of the paint palettes we used had yellow and gray, which are very similar to Pantone’s 2021 colors.
The yellow paint called Glow With the Flow is one of the colors belonging to Boysen Color Trend 2017 of the Technology palette. The grey Metropolis Mood comes from the Boysen Color Palette, the company’s most popular color guide to date.
Like Pantone’s Illuminating, Glow With the Flow creates a buoyant, light-hearted ambience in a room, while the grey Metropolis Mood gives a feeling of balance, equanimity, and peace of mind. All these we need to bring with us to the new year to give us that feeling of hope, energy, and strength that YES, we will survive these times!
Here are the room vignettes that used these colors.

Even if this was created in 2017, the style is still very much on point today. A sectional sofa is a must-have for great comfort during quarantine. This grey sofa looks so good against a yellow wall.
