There’s more to buying paint than choosing a color. You have to make sure it’s the right type of paint for the job. And seeing the labels on the shelves upon shelves of paint in the hardware store (with terms like acrylic, alkyd, and enamel) can easily overwhelm. To point you in the right direction, here is a list of the top choice paint products for home concrete exteriors from the Boysen family of paints.
Before anything else, keep in mind that this is a list of paint products to be applied to concrete exteriors. (Yes, this includes your cement walls. We say concrete instead of cement because, to get a little more technical, cement is an ingredient in concrete. Concrete is the finished product.) If you’re painting interiors or any surface other than concrete, such as wood or metal, you will need to check the specifications of your chosen paint.
1. Boysen Permacoat Latex
If there was an award for the most hardworking paint for residential homes, this would take the cake. Boysen Permacoat Latex is a water-based 100% acrylic latex paint. So, what does this mean exactly? Being 100% acrylic makes it outstandingly durable, excellent at hiding imperfections and flaws, and dirt pick-up resistant. Hence, your home concrete exterior will look good and stay good-looking for a long time.
Moreover, Boysen Permacoat can also be used in interiors, not just exteriors. Aside from concrete, it can also be applied on stucco, bricks, plaster, hollow blocks, and drywall surfaces. A 4L can of this can cover up to 25-30 sqm as a primer and 30-35 sqm as a topcoat. We told you it’s hardworking!
Boysen Permacoat dries to the touch in just an hour, needs only two hours per recoating, and already looks great with two coats of paint. It comes in a wide variety of readily available colors in several finishes. Here is a small selection of hues:
2. Boysen Acrytex
Here’s the go-to paint product for a long-lasting, extremely durable paint for home concrete exteriors. We’re talking paint that will try its very best to last years and years… and years. Boysen Acrytex’s formulation makes it exceptionally hardy. It adheres firmly to the surface it’s painted on making it unlikely that you’ll see it crack, flake, peel, yellow, or discolor. And, the longer it’s exposed, the harder the paint film becomes. It will be a long while before you see it aging.
When applied, Boysen Acrytex also creates a watertight, non-porous film that can repel water and prevent seepage. It’s definitely a good thing when you’re scouting for exterior paint in a typhoon-prone country like the Philippines. Easy to maintain, you can easily wash away dirt and stains away from it too.
Boysen Acrytex comes in flat, semi-gloss, and gloss finish in white. To achieve other colors, it can be tinted using Acrytex Tinting Colors at a ratio of 1:16.
Take note. Boysen Acrytex is recommended to be used on new concrete or concrete previously painted with Boysen Acrytex. It is not recommended for application over oil-based and water-based coatings.
3. Titan Superflex Elastomeric Paint
Painting doesn’t need to put a hole through your wallet. For those looking for a pocket-friendly alternative, look to Titan Superflex Elastomeric Paint. Sharing similar qualities to the two paint products above for home concrete exteriors, Titan Superflex Elastomeric Paint is durable, easy to maintain, and retains its color.
It does so by curing into an adherent, flexible film. Its qualities make it able to bridge hairline cracks on vertical walls, prevent water seepage on the surface it’s applied on, and reflect ultra-violet light.
It comes in a range of colors and dries to a matte finish. Like Boysen Permacoat Latex, it can be used on both exteriors and interiors. You will, however, need at least three coats of Titan Superflex Elastomeric Paint to achieve the best results. Remember to avoid painting on a humid day as it can affect the paint’s performance.
