Naturally, waterproofing is a concern in bathrooms. There will be areas that come in direct contact with water, like the floor of a shower area, that will benefit from an extra layer of protection.

Boysen Plexibond is a cementitious waterproofing system. And yes, you can use it for your bathroom including on floors. It is designed to be mixed with Portland cement prior to application. On bare concrete, before installing tiles, apply Boysen Plexibond. Aim for a smooth finish so you have an even surface to work with when it’s time to place your tiles.

Remember, Boysen Plexibond must be mixed with 6.5 to 7.5 kgs of cement to 4 liters of Plexibond. Do not use it as is or mix it with anything else other than cement (like tile grout, skimcoat, putty, or paint).

2. Konstrukt All-Purpose Tile Adhesive and Konstrukt Tile Adhesion Promoter

Product in Focus: Konstrukt Tileworks | MyBoysenNow for the tiles. Cement is often used for installing tiles. This is okay until you notice that your tiles develop what is known as “kapak” in colloquial terms. It’s when tiles become loose and even lift away from the surface. You’re especially prone to this when the adhesive you used to fix your tiles in place isn’t strong enough.

Konstrukt All-Purpose Tile Adhesive is a cement-based adhesive formulated for installing and fixing ceramic tiles on horizontal and vertical concrete surfaces. It helps ensure you avoid loose tiles. When using, remember to dampen the substrate prior to the application of the tile adhesive.

If you’re renovating your bathroom and applying tile-on-tile, reach for Konstrukt Tile Adhesion Promoter as well. This is an acrylic-based liquid emulsion that is mixed with Konstrukt All-Purpose Tile Adhesive. It will allow you to apply new tiles on top of already installed ones in your bathroom. You’ll need this if your tiles are also more than 30×30 cm in size.
