Stepping into a private resort in Tanay a few months back, I was amazed by how they kept the ambiance classy but cozy by using wood for the walls and as a primary element in most of the decorative pieces. The walls looked like they were fresh out of renovation although that was not the case, and the wooden furniture looked brand new. I wanted to ask how they were able to preserve the wood considering the weather but the introvert in me cut in so I just googled it.
Turns out there are a number of products you can use to help you safeguard your wooden surfaces. And Boysen offers one of the best in the market.
Boysen Xyladecor is a solvent-based, deep penetrating type of stain that combines decorative, water repellent and wood preserving properties in one product. It dries to a silk matte finish and is fit for both exterior and interior wood surfaces. The product emphasizes the grain, bringing out the natural beauty in any kind of wood.
Boysen Xyladecor does not only beautify wood but also preserves it. It prevents the growth of mold and fungi. You can therefore rest assured that the surface is protected against harmful elements and wood decay. Since it can work well without a primer, you can save a lot on your budget!
A 4L can of Boysen Xyladecor can cover 25-30 square meter depending on surface texture and porosity.
How to use Boysen Xyladecor
Before going through the process of painting your old wooden chairs, doors, or interiors, make sure to follow the proper surface preparation intended for new and old wooden surfaces. Few reminders: If it’s new, wipe the surface clean to remove dust. If it’s old, sand the surface to remove old paint or varnish, then wipe thoroughly to remove sanding dust.
You can apply Boysen Xyladecor to bare wood, without primers or undercoats, either by brush, spray or by dipping in an open container or tank to achieve a total covering rate. Don’t forget to shake and stir Xyladecor often during use to avoid separation.
- By brush: Lightly brush or wipe Xyladecor once along the grain to remove excess material and to smooth out any runs. Drying takes overnight. Instead of waiting, just make yourself comfortable and bring in some snacks or finish that Koreanovela you’ve been eyeing for weeks while it dries. Recoat for a darker shade.
- By spray: Use a 1.5 mm nozzle spraying a stream of material with a working pressure of approximately 40 psi. Spraying is not advisable for planed surfaces.
- By dipping: Dip the timber in Boysen Xyladecor for 2 minutes, varying the time required according to the absorbency of the wood. Stand the timber on end and allow to drain. If necessary, lightly brush the surface once in the direction of the grain before it dries.
Since Boysen Xyladecor Colorless may serve as a primer, you can apply it prior to the colored variants to even the color finish of any wood considering the varying degrees of absorbency. We don’t recommend to use this for exteriors on its own.
