With all the talk about minimalism and curating our spaces, there are still many of us who love to collect stuff. Some of us collect junk, those things that may come in handy one day…maybe…like plastic containers, paper and plastic bags, old newspapers and magazines, giveaway forks and spoons from restaurants, etc. Sounds familiar?

Marie Kondo’s famous line “does this spark joy” while going around room by room, may not be enough to convince a pack rat to let go of stuff. But do listen to Elsa (and I misquote here): “Let it go, let it go. Don’t keep all stuff anymore.”

Still, there are really things that are worth collecting, more so for a person who attaches sentimental value to objects. It could be keepsakes from loved ones or souvenirs from treasured experiences. Watch Dave make a shelf for his collection of mugs. But you can also use these for other things like toys, figurines, crystals or abubot that you’d like to display because seeing them makes you happy.

if you follow this blog, you’d know that for wood projects, we usually use Hudson Timbercoat and Boysen Xyladecor. Both these products bring out the the beauty of the wood grain and also protect the surface.

Coating your shelf with the products is the easiest part in this DIY project. The carpentry work is the more challenging part for most DIY newbies so you can either buy the shelf  or have someone make it for you.

Curate Your Clutter

There was a home decor trend a few years back that was called Cluttercore.

A New Trend in Home Interiors: CLUTTERCORE

Back in 2021, during the pandemic, when most of us were quarantined at home, this interior design style became a trend. Perhaps it was the circumstances at the time that made people want to be cocooned in the comfort of their homes and having their prized possessions surrounding them.

But then again, collecting things have been around for hundreds of thousands of years. A visit to museums will show us that our ancestors collected things like coins, weapons, crystals. We do it for a variety of reasons like pleasure, status, or curiosity.

The Cluttercore post offers decorating tips on how to bring out the beauty of your collection even more. Let your collection work for you and make a feature wall out of them.
