We only spend a few hours sitting down in our dining rooms but it’s a place that can get real messy, real fast. Especially so if you have kids or pets in the house. Or perhaps you’re a messy eater, too? We serve and eat food in our dining rooms so it makes sense to keep it clean. But not only that, keeping your dining room spick and span keeps unwanted guests like ants, roaches, and mice away. Here’s a quick dining room cleaning guide to get you started.

Clear out the TableDining Room Cleaning Guide | MyBoysen

Dining room tables have a tendency to act as catchalls for random food and non-food items alike. Things that don’t belong in the dining room table should be put away in their proper places. Random canned goods? Send them straight to the pantry. Piles of paperworks and receipts? Park them in your home office. Half opened bags of food? Store them in containers with lids to avoid attracting unsavory pests and stash them away in the pantry.

Wash your Tablecloths!Dining Room Cleaning Guide | MyBoysen

When was the last time you laundered your table cloth and place mats? If you have linen-lined chairs that can be removed, wash those as well. Do you have seat cushions that can be removed? Vacuum them first and, if you can, line them outside so they can air out under the sun.

Time to DustDining Room Cleaning Guide | MyBoysen

After clearing out the clutter, it’s time to do a full sweep of everything in your dining area. Go through the tables, chairs, cabinets, and even the overhead lighting fixture. Do a thorough scrub down of the table in chairs in particular. Just make sure to use the correct type of cleaning solution depending on what material your furniture is made out of.

Don’t Forget the Floors

Break out your steam mop or your good old bucket and mop because it’s time to clean the dining room floors. Spills are inevitable, specially when you’re chowing down on a delectable feast. Don’t let food stains stay too long on floors as it may be harder to get them off in the long run! Depending on the type of flooring you have, do your research first on how to clean them properly.

Aside from flooring, your walls may be victims of food spills as well. Don’t forget to give the walls of your dining room a good wipe down with a non-abrasive cloth and a gentle household cleaner. If you’ve painted your walls with Virtuosos Silk Touch, this should be easy!
