Now that the hubbub of the holidays is over, let’s welcome the new year with a clean and tidy home. Starting with the bedroom! We spend a third of our lives sleeping, so it makes sense to focus our energies into making sure our bedrooms are in tip-top shape. Here’s a bedroom cleaning guide to get you started!

Declutter!

It’s time to buckle down and take stock of all the knick knacks you have in your room. Decluttering doesn’t just open up your space for some good feng shui, but it opens up your mental space as well.

Ideally, bedsheets and pillowcases should be washed and changed once a week. But, let’s not forget the rugs and curtains as well! Your allergies will thank you.

Dust, Dust, Dust

Getting a cordless vacuum is one of the best investments I’ve ever made. But using a good old broom and dust pan does the trick too! Clean out forgotten places such as the area under the bed frames and behind wardrobes and cabinets. If you have tiled flooring, bust out the mop, too!

Time to Vacuum

Those with allergic rhinitis can relate. Getting a vacuum with the proper filters does wonders so we can actually breathe while in bed. Vacuum your mattress and any other upholstered furniture in your bedroom like chairs and sofas.

Wipe, Wipe, Wipe

Time to bust out your old rags to do some wiping. If you can, it’s best to avoid harsh cleaning products when doing so. A quick google search online can yield a wide array of more natural means for cleaning purposes. Don’t forget to wipe the bed frame and other commonly hard to reach areas.

While you’re at it, consider wiping down your walls as well, you’d be surprised how much dust can actually stick onto your walls! For painted walls, avoid using harsh chemicals and abrasive cloths so as not to damage the paint film. If you’ve painted your walls using Virtuoso Silk Touch, it’s even easier as it has an Easy Clean Technology that makes common household dirt and stains easy to wipe away. Clean Your Filters

I can’t stress this enough. Check your aircon filters! If you feel like your A/C unit isn’t as cold as it usually is, your filter might be chock full of dust which is preventing proper airflow. Aside from your aircon, wipe down the casing and the blades of your electric fans as well. We don’t want more dust and dirt circulating around the bedroom now, do we?
