Most people choose light neutrals for their homes. But if you’re feeling the tickle to paint your home with other colors, yet are unsure about what colors to pick, here’s the LIVE color palette of Boysen Color Trend 2022/23 to the rescue. The LIVE palette is a good mix of cool neutral grays and blues, and a warm color orange which can be used as the accent color. This palette is definitely an easy way to enter the world of color.

Here are three ways you can use the LIVE color palette depending on your appetite for color experimentation. But before that discussion, allow me to give you this tip. It’s called the 60-30-10 rule followed by interior designers. Choose three colors from the palette then use them as follows:

  • 60% comes from the dominant wall color and big furniture pieces,
  • 30% can be from accent furniture pieces, lighting or soft furnishings,
  • 10% are home accessories, textiles, patterns, or textures.

We are assuming here that you are starting with a blank canvas, meaning, you are not repainting and there are no furniture yet in the space. If this is not the case, you can still use the 60-30-10 rule but you will have to take your cue from the colors of existing furniture. From there, you will have to find colors that complement what already exists.

Color your walls with a neutral color like this light gray called Silver Streak. Your furniture could take on the color which is a darker gray like Cool Tides. I call this low risk because the colors orange and blue are accessories that can be changed easily. If you want to have something more restrained than the orange and blue colors, you can have home accessories that are in the color of Mellow Mint or Hidden Oasis.

Despite the use of more colors in this space, I would still consider this living room’s color palette as a moderate one considering because most big surfaces like the walls, sofa and other furniture are in neutral colors white and gray. The rug is also in light gray and black, which are also neutral colors. Bright hues are introduced in the throw pillows and wall art. There are more colors compared to the bedroom above. Here you see all the colors of the LIVE palette in the objects. Again, if you find it too much, you can always swap the bright colors with more neutral ones, even pastels. Take note though that because of the relatively small size of the colored objects, the room may have color but it is not overwhelming.

There’s nothing moderate about the use of colors in this space. Not the colors of the interiors and not the view. When you are ready to paint your walls with colors like these intense blue and orange, then that means you have such an ease with colors that you can play with them and use their energy to enliven a space, to create impact, and to express yourself. Let no one stop you.
