Hello, Lettie!

We have unpainted plywood doors. I would like to ask for your suggestion on which paint is best for it.

I’m also looking for soft white color options so they go with our walls. The walls adjacent to the outside of the doors are painted in Boysen BCP-0579 Turkish Tower. The walls adjacent to the inside of the doors are painted in Boysen B-7502 Winter Morning.

Thank you!

Hello too, Boysen User I.

Thanks for your message! Let’s get to painting your plywood doors. First, I’ll be suggesting Boysen paint products that are suitable for wooden surfaces. Then, we’ll be talking about how you can get the soft white color you’re looking for.

As preferences differ per individual, we typically leave color selection up to the homeowner. But, don’t worry! I’ll still point you in the right direction with the help of Boysen’s tinting colors.

Paint Products for Plywood Doors

Here are the Boysen products that you can use for your plywood doors. They’re both hardy enamel paints perfect for high-touch wooden surfaces like doors and cabinets.

Boysen Quick Drying Enamel

Boysen Quick Drying Enamel

Boysen Quick Drying Enamel is a paint product for exterior and interior wooden and metal surfaces. It’s reliably durable, resistant to wear and abrasion, and comes in a high gloss finish. Aside from an attractive finish, this glossy shine also makes cleaning your painted surface easier as dirt and grime won’t easily stick to it. All these mean your door is going to look good for a long time.

Boysen Semi-Gloss Enamel

Boysen Semi-Gloss Enamel

If you would rather have a semi-gloss finish rather than a high gloss one, there’s Boysen Semi-Gloss Enamel. It’s also a paint product for wooden and metal finishes just like Boysen Quick Drying Enamel and shares a lot of its properties and features. It’s also durable, resistant to wear and abrasion, and can be used for both exteriors and interiors too.

Achieving Your Desired Paint Color

Now, on the matter of the paint color you want to achieve. You mentioned you’re looking for a soft white hue for your plywood door. The paint products I mentioned above—Boysen Quick Drying Enamel and Boysen Semi-Gloss Enamel—do not have soft white as a readily available color. Here’s what you can do instead: enlist the help of Boysen tinting colors!

To get paint colors other than those you can grab off the shelves, you can mix your own using tinting colors. It’s quite easy actually! You simply pour the tinting colors into a container of white paint and mix well.

You can adjust the amount of tinting color you use depending on how soft or strong you want the final paint color to be. You can also mix more than one tinting color to create a variety of hues.

You can use Boysen Oil Tinting Colors to tint Boysen Quick Drying Enamel and Boysen Semi-Gloss Enamel. For your soft white, I would try starting with the tiniest amount of the tinting colors Venetian Red, Hansa Yellow, and Lampblack into a container of white paint.

Take note, though. There is only a set amount of tinting colors you can add into paint before you compromise its stability. The maximum ratio of colorant to paint is 1:16. This means you should mix no more than 1/4 liter or 250 mL of colorant into a 1-gallon (approx. 4.5 liters) container of paint. Find other must-know info about using tinting colors here.

Hope your projects goes well!
