Boysen Automotive Lacquer is a paint product that helps you achieve that sought-after high-gloss finish. It’s a popular product! If you’re thinking of using it for your home, here are some things you need to know about it first.

What is Boysen Automotive Lacquer?

Boysen Automotive Lacquer is a nitrocellulose lacquer-type paint that’s capable of giving you an attractive Duco finish.

What is a Duco finish?

You might know paints that give a Duco finish as “automotive lacquers” as they resemble the reflective sheen of cars. Duco finishes have a distinct high-gloss appearance. It’s even shinier than typical gloss paints, so much so that you can almost see your reflection in it.

Typically, Duco paints are lacquer-type paints that are nitrocellulose-based. This makes them water-resistant, hard-wearing, and have a short drying time.

Where can I apply it?

Use Boysen Automotive Lacquer on interior wooden surfaces even on high-touch surfaces like cabinets.

Make sure, however, that wherever you paint it, it will not be exposed to sunlight as this product is not UV-resistant. Exposure to sunlight will likely lead to peeling and flaking. It’s for this reason that it is not recommended for exterior use as well.

Can I apply it with a brush?

No, you can’t. Using a brush or roller is not recommended as it would cause visible brush streaks or roller marks on the paint film.

Can I use it on cars?

Despite its name, it cannot be used on actual automobiles. It’s named this way because it gives off a shiny finish, similar to what you see on cars.

Can I apply varnish on top for an even shinier finish?

No, you can’t. It’s not part of the painting system of Boysen Automotive Lacquer and could lead to painting problems.

Is this something I can DIY?
