Just as we were starting to get some respite from the COVID-19 virus, here comes another health threat to worry about: dengue. This is why it’s time once again to talk about Boysen’s insect-killing paint, Boysen Bug Off.

Dengue has become a bigger threat. Says the Department of Health, cases from January to July this year now total more than 65,000, that’s 83% higher compared to the same period last year. The total number of deaths has reached 274. This can be especially alarming to parents as, in the past, children under 10 years old accounted for a third of deaths.

The DOH advocates for “the 4s” as dengue prevention. These are: search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, self-protect with mosquito repellent and clothing with long sleeves, seek early consultation when symptoms arise, and support fogging when necessary.

On top of these preventive measures, Pinoy households can also enlist the help of Boysen Bug Off, an impressive paint product that’s proven to kill disease-causing insects like mosquitoes. Here are the key things you should know about it:

Boysen Bug Off Features

BOYSEN Bug Off Paint

1. Kills Bugs with Artilin® Anti-Insect Technology

Artilin® Anti-Insect Technology makes use of pyrethroids. Pyrethroids are similar to pyrethrins found in the chrysanthemum flower. This compound helps protect the flower from insects and so Bug Off, in a similar manner, can do the same for your home.

When a mosquito lands on a surface painted with Bug Off—such as the walls in your garage where the dark and damp attract the insects—the pyrethroids start attacking its nervous system. After a short while, the mosquito then drops dead.

Boysen Bug Off is also effective against other insects like houseflies and most cockroaches including the American cockroach which you may already regularly encounter at home. The paint’s insect-killing properties can last for at least 3 years.

2. Certified Safe

Rest easy. Though the paint can kill insects, it does not affect humans and pets. Boysen Bug Off is formulated with low amounts of pyrethroids, just enough to kill insects but harmless to people. It cannot be inhaled either as the compound is firmly embedded in the paint.

Passing dermal tests, the wet paint is scientifically proven safe and effective by laboratories at the University of the Philippines Los Baños. Boysen Bug Off has also undergone a rigorous certification process and has been approved by the Philippine Food and Drug Administration.

Bug Off is a safer, healthier, and more environment-friendly alternative to insecticides as well. There’s no worry about repeatedly exposing members of the family to the chemicals in insecticidal sprays. Moreover, Bug Off is effective for a long while. Once it’s applied, you can let the paint do the work for you.

And, just like other Boysen paints, Boysen Bug Off is non-toxic, mercury-free, and lead-safe.

3. Can Be Applied to Interior and Exterior Surfaces

Boysen Bug Off is recommended to be used on walls and ceilings inside the home where it can quietly kill insects that use these surfaces for resting. The paint can also be used on exterior surfaces where insects may gather. Use it on concrete and drywall.

A good place would be the back walls of gardens where mosquitoes hide. Consider also laundry areas, garages, and other dimly lit areas in the home that have places where water can pool. Remember, stagnant water pools become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Get rid of these whenever you see them.

Reminders for Use

Boysen Bug Off comes in a white flat finish and can be tinted to different colors using Boysen Latex Colors. It should not be diluted or mixed with any other paint so it retains its efficacy.

After application, do not clean the surface to ensure the highest level of effectiveness. You may lightly wipe the surface with a damp cloth after seven days but avoid using soap and detergents.
