American author Elizabeth Gilbert, best known for her book “Eat, Pray, Love,” says: “A creative life is an amplified life. It’s a bigger life, a happier life, an expanded life, and a hell of a lot more interesting life.”
This search for our creative voice reminds me of the Japanese concept ikigai, which stands for our reason for being.
This diagram shows ikigai as the convergence of four elements:
- what we love (passion),
- what the world needs (mission),
- what we’re good at (vocation),
- what we can get paid for (profession)
