When the Boysen Color Team brainstormed about the the theme for Color Trend 2022/23, we were all in the thick of the pandemic lockdowns. The world’s scientists did not yet have all the answers for the many questions about the virus and its behavior. We all did not know how our lives were going to be, and how long it would take before we would be able to go out again and get on with our lives in the outside world. Governments were scrambling to secure tests and vaccines for their citizenry. Being a third world country, we were not first on the list for medical supplies needed by the health care profession. Looking back at the struggles the world went through from today’s vantage point, it seems longer than two years. While we still follow some protocols like wearing masks, social distancing, washing our hands, life is settling down to a new kind of normalcy.
To come up with FLOURISH in early 2021 may seem like a pie in the sky move. But that’s how Boysen operates. This is a company that continuously innovates. For that to be possible, audacity is a characteristic embedded in the company’s DNA.
Why FLOURISH?
In early 2021, wasn’t it premature to call Color Trend 2022/23 FLOURISH? Sure. The word Resilience was making the rounds in the team but that was quickly pushed aside. We felt that resilience came from a starting point of hardship, which was the reality of course, and still is for many of us. But people in Boysen are contrarians, and we wanted something positive. We wanted to manifest a world where growth was possible and part of the present. Even if we didn’t know when exactly the lockdowns would end, we wanted to imagine that. Besides, the four palettes that were already in place had such vibrant colors.
Despite the many themes put forward by the team, FLOURISH won by a landslide.
Why did we name the four color palettes Breathe, Move, Bloom, and Live? We related the story of FLOURISH to the four natural elements that are essential to life, namely, air, water, earth, and fire, respectively.
Enjoy the interpretation of the colors into the four “worlds” shown in the video.
The Breathe Color Palette = Air
Breathe is as relevant today as it was in 2021 when we created Color Trend 2022/23. That’s literally a challenge for most of us. Still today, many of us find it difficult to breathe with masks on, especially double masks. Being able to breathe is critical to life.
But aside from the literal meaning, we also call on the figurative meaning of breathing. It is the chance to have enough time to rest, to have the time and space to create things that mean something to us, or to connect to those who matter to us.

The Move Color Palette = Water
Without water, we die. Just like air, that is how important this natural element is to us human beings. 75% of the earth’s surface is made up of water. 60% of the human body is made up of water.
In this world of ours where we have to be nimble, open, and most of all, present to what is happening around us, we have to move like water, and be able to switch from being solid, liquid, or gas, figuratively speaking, to be able to navigate this fast-changing life. This is the reason for equating the Move palette to the natural element water.

The Bloom Color Palette = Earth
We need earth to be able to help us reach our potential as a species. We need the grounding to achieve the best we can be as individuals. Earth is the source of our nutrients, the foundation we need to stand on, the sacred space essential to our well-being. The natural element earth makes it possible for us to bloom.
The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well. ―
Make a home that nurtures and encourages you to accept life’s challenges and fully experience what awaits (even the painful parts). Experience the light and the dark, the warmth and the cold, and all the seasons that life brings. Allow those experiences to transform you to become the best person you can be.

The Live Color Palette = Fire
The “world” representing the Live palette is an invitation to look beyond borders and limitations, to transcend, to grow and allow the possibilities of how we can share our gifts with the world, and in so doing, grow as we are meant to grow.
Let the fire of intention and purpose fill our hearts. Open doors, build bridges, go out into the world and connect.

The Imaginative Worlds of the Four Color Palettes
Using the colors of each palette, we imagined “worlds” in the video instead of presenting interior and exterior spaces. For that, we invite you to visit the Boysen Color Trend website.
When we create our homes, make dreaming play a big part before turning that dream into reality. Savor this phase. It is a beautiful part in the process of making a home for yourself and your loved ones. This is a time when the sky is the limit, or even beyond the sky, as shown in the world of the Live palette. Take the time to expand the dream, stay in it, feel it, imbue your spirit into the dream, and let your dream lead you to the next phases of creating your home. Most of all, enjoy it. This is not the time or place to think about budgets and other concrete steps. That phase of building will come soon enough. And that time requires a different kind of energy.
First, enjoy imagining your dream home in these new colors.
