For those new to painting, we know it can get a little confusing. However, yes, Boysen Permacoat Latex is technically both a primer and topcoat—but you have to get the right one.

Boysen Permacoat Latex comes in flat, semi-gloss, and gloss finishes. The paint product that can be used as primer is Boysen Permacoat Latex in flat finish in the color white. Flat is best for a primer as this will help ensure that your topcoat properly adheres to your concrete.

On the product label, it will say “Boysen Permacoat Flat Latex B-701 White.” Simply look for that on the container and you’re set. You have your primer.

And take note that it’s not a 2-in-1 product. After applying a coating of Permacoat as primer, it’s best that you apply 2 layers of Permacoat as topcoat. Now, let’s discuss your choices for this.
