Most of us haven’t even smelled a whiff of a beach, and now PAGASA is saying the wet season is coming! Wut! Wait! Wait! Did summer just come by and depart without so much as a by your leave? Hold on a minute, Typhoons, and let me talk about these breezy summer hues.

Yes, these scrumptious colors are so channeling the hot summer vibes. Playful, fun, and downright cheerful, let me talk about our summer palette now even if Dante is making his presence felt. You don’t know Dante? Well he is a Tropical Depression pouring rain in the Visayas region. Let’s hope he leaves quickly without causing much damage.

See this post as an escape from the quarantine blues, the expected typhoons (1 to 3 per month according to PAGASA), and whatever challenges there are in life right now.

Breezy Summer Hues

Why do we Filipinos often talk about the beach when we talk about summer? Well, in case you haven’t noticed, we are an island people who live in an archipelago which boasts of so many beautiful beaches. Most of us opt to spend our summer vacations by the beach, or should I say opted since travel constraints limit our choices now.

Beach or no beach, we shouldn’t stop ourselves from enjoying the summer feels. Here are some summer color ideas to get your imagination going.

Pink Explosion | BCP-1108

Hot pink and gorgeous, Pink Explosion fits summer to a T. Think of a sun-browned body encased in a pink suit, cavorting on a white beach with the blue waters in the background. Think of those pink bougainvilleas on the sides of a pretty path lined with crushed shells and white pebbles. Or think of a girl’s pink floaty sarong as she lounges on a rattan chair while sipping on a watermelon margarita.

Happy Face | BCP-0851

Summer is a happy season even when you’re melting. The mantra is Chill. Let it B. Let it be. Forget your cares and put on that happy face. Take sun baths and let the sun work its magic. We all need sunbeams to keep us healthy. Walk on the beach and catch the morning sun. If you’re early enough, you may see the fishing boats come in with some fresh catch. Have fried fish for breakfast with your sunny side up and garlic rice. Add achara to clean your palate then have a sip of that fresh pineapple juice. When it gets too hot to go outside, saunter to your cool bedroom and have a morning nap.

Dream Catcher | BCP-0481

While you’re taking that nap, let the dream catcher protect you from negative energy. It will guard your sleep and allow only those good dreams to enter your unconscious. This native American talisman is meant to be hung over a cradle or bed. The greenish undertone of Dream Catcher is a perfect balance for the intense hues in this palette. Using this hue as the main color prevents your living space to feel overpowering. Instead, it will be as restful as any sleep protected by a dream catcher.

Lasting Thoughts | BCP-0659

Paint Names Illustrated: Breezy Summer Hues | MyBoysen

This calm and gentle blue provides a good balance for the hot pink and sunshine yellow.  Use the serenity of Lasting Thoughts to create lasting memories, and fill up your summers with those. When the rainy days come, think about those summer days and remember the fun and love you felt. Even after decades, those memories will warm you up and get you through difficult times like this pandemic.

Cyan Sky | BCP-0681

Paint Names Illustrated: Breezy Summer Hues | MyBoysen

This blue Cyan Sky has green undertones. It’s the color of our crystalline waters when the sun’s rays touches it. Imagine you’re a bird and you’re floating way up high where the air is clean and fresh. No urban noise interrupts your reverie, but only the sound of the surf, the rustle of coconut fronds in the breeze, and the occasional happy laughter of people on the beach. Quiet elation unfurls gently in you. It soothes and relaxes your being, and makes you believe that a bright tomorrow awaits.

Taste of Summer | BCP-0982

Taste of Summer looks as inviting and wholesome as a melon sorbet on a sunny day. Its cantaloupe shade is refreshing. The brown undertones in the paint color tames the bite of a more intense orange color. This feels like the burnished glow of the sky after the sun slips below the horizon. The warmth of the sun remains but the sting is long gone. Bid the day farewell and get ready for the blossoming of the night. As for tomorrow, trust that it will be another beautiful day.
