Hi, Lettie.

Can I use Boysen Acrytex Clear Coat as a topcoat on top of Boysen Alkyd Traffic Paint? It’s for our curbside concrete parking. I would like additional protection for it. It was previously painted with Boysen Alkyd Reflectorized Traffic Paint but has faded already.

Thanks for the help.

Hi, Boysen User N!

Thanks for your message. I would be happy to help!

I understand your concern on wanting to make your paint last as long as possible. However, I would actually advise against applying Boysen Acrytex Clear Coat as topcoat for this project. This is simply because Boysen Alkyd Traffic Paint is already a capable topcoat on its own.

Provided that the recommended surface preparation and painting instructions have been followed, the painting system should more or less last. Keep in mind as well that our general repainting interval is around 5 years.

What You Need to Know About Boysen’s Traffic Paints | MyBoysen

Boysen Alkyd Traffic Paint is a quick-drying, alkyd-based marking paint with excellent adhesion and durability. It is designed for use on street markings, curbs, and other areas where traffic lanes and safety zones are marked.

It is non-reflectorized and has a matte finish—these are its two main differences from Boysen Alkyd Reflectorized Traffic Paint. It’s available in three colors: white, yellow, and black.

If you need a primer, use Boysen Epoxy Primer diluted in a 1:1 ratio with Boysen Epoxy Reducer. Then, apply two coats of Boysen Alkyd Traffic Paint with a recoat interval of 8 to 12 hours. Remember, as with any concrete paint, curing time must be strictly followed. Allot a curing time of 3 days for foot traffic and 7 days for vehicles.

Note, however, that you should apply it on concrete surfaces only. Boysen engineers do not recommend it on other types of surfaces like asphalt or brick.

Hope this helps!
