But, did you know that we also have a textured, water-based paint? Read more about Boysen Permatex below.

What is Boysen Permatex?

Boysen Permatex is a water-based, full-bodied paint that dries to a fine, rubbery coating that doesn’t become brittle over time. It creates a beautiful textured finish on interior walls and ceilings that brings a touch of uniqueness to your living space.

It can be applied on wood, concrete, and even fiberboard surfaces. It’s also formulated to be able to conceal hairline cracks and minor surface imperfections. Take note that Permatex shouldn’t be applied on high-friction areas as the texture might chip off.

Make Your Walls Permatex-Ready

Make sure that new concrete has dried for at least 14 to 28 days before painting over it. The surface should be clean and dry, free from oil, grease, dust, dirt, and all other types of debris. For wooden surfaces, hammer all nails deep enough to apply putty. Sand rough wood until smooth and then dust off before painting.

For repainting, scrape off all loose, scaling, flaking, and peeling paint. If the concrete is chalky, use BOYSEN Chalk Blocker as surface conditioner. In case of growing mildew on the walls, treat the surface with a bleach solution (1:3 laundry bleach to water, respectively), by swabbing or brushing. To make sure the mildew is all gone, let the treated surface stand for at least 1 day before cleaning off the residue. Let the surface dry completely.

Different Textures of Boysen Permatex

For a regular texture pattern, apply Boysen Permatex straight from the can using a textured roller. If a different design pattern is desired, apply the product straight from the can by using a textured roller. Then, while the paint is still wet and workable, press the desired design pattern roller over wet paint and roll in one direction to impress the design onto the surface.

Proper Painting Schedule

Unlike other paints such as Permacoat and Healthy Home, there are no readily available colors for Permatex nor can it be mixed with colorants. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t add a pop of color onto your textured walls! After letting the Permatex texture dry for at least 12 hours, you can apply a colored water-based topcoat on top of the texture. You can use Permacoat, Healthy Home, or Virtuoso Silk Touch for interior painting projects. Adding a colored topcoat is optional though. So, if you still prefer the sleek white of Permatex, you can leave it as it is.
