It’s always good to know what substrate you are dealing with. In the Philippines, concrete is a very popular building material.
DIY Dave is back with Concrete 101, specifically how to mix concrete and prepare molds.
In this video, you will see the difference between cement and concrete. Then, Dave teaches how to mix concrete and how to make a mold with it.
Concrete is a good material to use for large projects, as well as small projects. The trick is in the materials you will choose to add to the mix.
We’ve shown several DIY video tutorials using concrete. Here are some of them:
Pendant lamp
Plant propagator
Kitchen paper roll holder
Planter or pot
Plant stand
Lamp
Tea light holder
Here’s something to remember when you’re DIY-ing with concrete. You need patience. You’d need days, maybe a month, for concrete to dry. The upside though is that you can do other DIY projects while waiting.

Working with Concrete
In case you are a new follower or reader of this blog, something important to establish before you use paints is to first identify what the substrate is. There are four that we at Boysen keep talking about: 1) concrete, 2) wood, 3) metal, and 4) drywall. Then, the next thing you need to know is whether you will be painting the substrate for the first time or repainting. Another important consideration to keep in mind is whether the surface is found in interiors or exteriors.
The painting systems and painting schedules would differ for each substrate. If you want your surfaces to have an excellent finish, you need to know the Boysen way to do things. We’ve got your back, so you can always search this blog and find your answers. We also made this video Boysen Painting 101 years ago, a video tutorial that even professional painters find very useful.
